US farmers who sell to China feel pain of Beijing’s tariffs
In a statement Monday, the American Soybean Association reacted with frustration edged with anxiety.

“The sentiment out in farm country is getting grimmer by the day,” said John Heisdorffer, a soybean farmer in Keota, Iowa, who is chairman of the ASA. “Our patience is waning, our finances are suffering and the stress from months of living with the consequences of these tariffs is mounting.”

A slowdown in soybean sales, and the huge stockpiles that result, has a ripple effect. Farmers in many parts of the corn belt have suffered from a wet and cooler spring, which has prevented them from planting corn. Typically when it becomes too late to plant corn, farmers will instead plant soybeans, which can grow later into the fall before harvest is required. Yet now, planting soybeans with the overabundance already in bins and scant hope for sales to one of the biggest buyers in China, could raise the ...

If the Chinese don't buy lots of soybeans, they must not need lots of soybeans. What they do need is American dollars, more than we need their not so well made things. Let the tariffs go where they go, and we'll see who fares well. btw, one-crop farming is a bad idea, from a soil management perspective, and because it always ends up needing some form of aid or protection from the government.

Hoeven said there was a chance that White House officials could attempt to purchase U.S. farm products and then give them to poor countries. A similar program was established under the Food for Peace Act.

But government officials have found that these programs are very difficult to administer, in part because it can be hard to move crops on a large scale to poor countries efficiently. There are also concerns that dumping large amounts of crops can disrupt the local farming infrastructure, and some poor countries do not need certain crops that could be in abundance in the United States, such as soybeans.

In addition, Grassley said there are strict limits on how U.S. officials could simply donate food to poor countries. He said the way Trump has discussed it could violate World Trade Organization rules....

The farmers invested in China, now they are literally reaping what they sow. Where were the farmers all these years when human rights abuses were happening? how many millions of dollars were gained to lift an evil nation?

Trump campaigned against foreign aid. He has complained about foreign aid as president, but now that his trade war is pushing farmers to bankruptcy, the president suddenly wants to use taxpayer money to buy the crops and give them away as foreign aid.
Donald Trump’s desperation is transparent, as Mr. Capitalist is now proposing a socialist program to bribe farmers so that they don’t give him the boot in 2020....

An interesting observation anyway, what I read earlier buy Secretary of agriculture Perdue, the Trump Administration wasn't going to do anything more for the American farmer.
