Satanic Temple Says it’s Been Recognized as a Church by the IRS
The Satanic Temple has been officially recognized as a church by the Internal Revenue Service, three months after taking Sundance by storm as the subject of the documentary “Hail Satan?” According to an announcement from “Hail Satan?” distributor Magnolia Pictures, the temple is now eligible for the tax-exempt status given to other religious institutions.

The latest documentary by Penny Lane, “Hail Satan?” follows the history of the Satanic Temple and its colorful protests in the name of religious freedom and separation of church and state, including a push to have a Baphomet statue placed on the grounds of the Arkansas State Capitol next to a proposed statue of The Ten Commandments. ...

Doc, just trying to put out my thinking of what I see. If I am wrong then it is my perception that is incorrect.

Nobody who posts here is perfect or always reacts correctly. You seem to get offended pretty easily despite saying some pretty rough edge things about posters in some of your own. (not talking about your obvious jests). It would probably do us all well to open with questions instead of accusations.

I am glad the Lord led you here and for your perspectives, I think we all would do well to give people the benefit of the doubt. I know I need improvement in that area.

Yes, I am absolutely sure that some of my postings are silly. Thanks for reminding me. And I also admit that often I don't see someone's post the way they meant it to be. See we actually agree on these points.

Dr. Tim

I said: “Some of our early founders were probably Christian”; but surely not all. You said the same thing, but then accused me of error.

The fact that none of us were present is a silly comment. I wasn’t present when George Washington was born, but I can still be assured he was born.

Of course I believe there are Christian churches! I said absolutely nothing to imply otherwise. I also believe this country has done more to serve Christ, than any other.

I don’t believe our founders intended to make this country a “Christian” country. Christian principles, yes, exclusivity or even teaching of exclusivity – no.

See John; you did help me!

Yes! Adriel.

I would just add
Masonic?

to the list as well...something to which many of our founders would have related.

Frank, I respectfully submit that you were not present when America was founded, and neither was I. However, Patrick Henry WAS present, and he said, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Was every colonist and early patriot a Christian? Of course not. Is every single member of your church and mine a born-again child of God? Probably not. Nevertheless, that does not mean that we are not members of Christian churches or that the United States was not intended to be a Christian nation.

Hi Frank, is it an open question? I would have thought that if as you say the founders of the church only believed their faith was superior rather than uniquely true, then I would say they never did understand the gospel nor John 14:6.
I changed superior to read unique. That is what I was trying to say in the first place. But, I may change it tomorrow to read exclusive?
You mean I actually helped with your thesis, Frank? And without even knowing it? What a joy and privilege, brother. I'm sure you'll find the right word for it.

Which 'satanic temple' are they talking about?

Roman Catholic?
Anglican?
Episcopalian?
PCUSA?
Etc?

What if a Christian church with let's say 200 members decided they would open up their church to other faiths; Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Voodooists, and others. Let's say after that was done, there were 200 Christians, 50 Buddhists, 60 Muslims, 30 Jews, 20 Voodooists, and the others amounted to 150. Worship services would be divided equally if possible among these religious groups. Now let's say the Christian founders of this church stated that although they felt their beliefs were in fact true and superior to the others, all of the other’s beliefs would be deemed equal in practice to the Christian's. The church would have to accommodate all of the other faiths equally and would have to conduct their church life in a manner that would not subjugate or dictate their particular mandates to any of the of the other faiths. So in all respects they were equal to each other in practice, although each faith was permitted and even encouraged to believe theirs was in fact superior. Now the question I want to ask you is this; can this church call themselves a Christian church?

Our country was founded in the same manner as this church. Some of our early founders were probably Christian, I don't doubt that, but they set up a country that approximates the above fictitious church.

If you read what the Founding Fathers themselves said about freedom of religion, you will quickly discover that this is not what they intended. Only by a deliberate misinterpretation and degradation of the Constitution has this type of thing come about.
