SPECIAL REPORT
The Foundations Conference NYC Dec 19-20, 2019

The church is distracted.

With all that is happening in our fast-paced society, the temptation for the church is to become sidetracked with fighting individual, secondary issues.

When the apostles in the first century church faced mounting perplexities and distractions in the work they found it necessary to give themselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word (Acts 6:4). We believe there is a need to return to these same foundations of ministry in our generation.

Dr. Steven Lawson is typically joined by a unique blend of other featured speakers on SermonAudio.

Diversions and devices.

Have you noticed? Smart phones, social media, and the media generally have all contributed to making it difficult to ā€œgive ourselvesā€ in time, energy, and attention to any given task. Meditating on God's Word has become a lost art. Closing the door of our prayer closets to shut out the world has also become increasingly difficult. In light of this challenge, our hope and prayer is that we will be able to direct our attention this year on preaching and prayer, but with a special emphasis on ā€œgiving ourselvesā€ whole-heartedly to these pursuits.

It is said that Hollywood is the center of the entertainment world, but New York City is the center of the media and mass communication world. The nations of the world are all represented in this city both by its inhabitants and by its visitors. D. L. Moody once said that ā€œCities are the centers of influence. Water runs downhill, and the highest hills in America are the great cities. If we can stir them we shall stir the whole country.ā€ In the providence of God, the New York Gospel Mission has maintained a physical presence in the heart of Manhattan just a few blocks away from the Empire State Building at a time when many other Christian organizations have been forced to leave the city. NYGM operates their Gospel ministry out of a small, historic church building on 26th Street and it is once again the venue for our third Foundations Conference.

The New York Gospel Mission operates out of an historic 1800s-era church in the heart of Manhattan just around the corner from the Empire State Building and has been the venue for The Foundations Conference.

We have assembled a unique lineup of respected preachers from varied backgrounds to open God's Word for us on Dec 19-20, 2019. We hope you will join us!

The seating is extremely limited, but the benefit is that you'll have an opportunity to sit and talk with the speakers and other pastors in a relaxed setting. In addition, all singing will be done a cappella for its beauty in simplicity.

Joining us at the conference will be Banner of Truth and they have graciously agreed to offer generous discounts for conference attendees. We hope you will take advantage of their book tables during the break times each day.

Treat yourself to a memorable showing of Handel's Messiah at the Lincoln Center performed by the world-class New York Philharmonic, performing the same week of the conference for your convenience. Just a tip, the Wednesday evening (Dec 18) before the conference would be an ideal time to go see it this year!

Lunches and refreshments will be provided on-location for both days. In addition, every attendee will receive a special memento to commemorate this our third Foundations Conference.

Regretfully only one of the 6 guess preachers at this conference seem to adhere to the AV.
Such fact reflects where the train of the modern evangelical pulpit gravitates to, say towards reliance on critical text based versions.

As pulpits rely on such loose translations, out of necesity then, teaching will be somehow affected, not only in content but signifincantly in attitudes and approach also, in spite of great care taken to consult the original languages.
The effects of this pragmatic slant will be not only theologically long term felt, but also obviously immediately perceived in practice.

See, we pass a stronger message to the pew by what we do than by what we say, and subtly the message is assimilated: faithfullness through detail does not matter as far as the result is justified by pragmatism.
This in turn destroys integrity of character without which there is no authentic blessing in the church of Christ.
We cannot play at gymmics without paying a price. However, as much as we wish to convince ourselves other wise, such price is already obviously reflected in the type of church such preachers lead.

Ministries not committed to accuracy will eventually, without a doubt, prove themselves not reliable, and in the long term self destructive.
