You Give Apps Sensitive Personal Information. Then They Tell Facebook.
Millions of smartphone users confess their most intimate secrets to apps, including when they want to work on their belly fat or the price of the house they checked out last weekend. Other apps know users’ body weight, blood pressure, menstrual cycles or pregnancy status.

Unbeknown to most people, in many cases that data is being shared with someone else: Facebook Inc. FB 1.16%

The social-media giant collects intensely personal information from many popular smartphone apps just seconds after users enter it, even if the user has no connection to Facebook, according to testing done by The Wall Street Journal. The apps often send the data without any prominent or specific disclosure, the testing showed. ...

Tim Cook seemed partly to be responding directly to Google’s recent announcement. “You might like these so-called free services, but we don’t think they’re worth having your email or your search history or now even your family photos data-mined and sold off for God knows what advertising purpose,” he said.

Cook also argued that American citizens have a right to encrypt their data, and in so doing keep it from inspection by law enforcement officials. Apple and over 140 other tech firms including Google signed a letter to Barack Obama last month, asking him not to force them to hand over user data....

Something written an 2015. Oh, I don't know what the Trump Administration is doing about this?

Yes, Chris, you have some good points there.

I see the Wall Street Journal Limited the whole article to only those who are subscribers.👎

This is off the topic, but does have to do with social media...any parent who doesn't have controls in place for monitoring a child's social media accounts, if they're even allowed to have any, which would be the wise choice, is being highly irresponsible in safeguarding a child's safety. I watched a show last night which exposed how many children are abducted, raped, and killed, etc., after forming relationships on social media platforms. The men will pick the girls up late-night, or the girls will sneak out a window to go and meet the 'boy" they fell in "love" with, etc., often, never to be seen alive again. Any unmonitored platform is dangerous, but they spoke of one in particular, which was, "Kik"; a real popular one with the kids because they can chat anonymously, without their parents finding out, or being able to identify that they've been online, or even that they've been talking with anyone, etc.

The predators are out and about in every city, and every small town, USA. Nobody should ever think it can't/won't happen to them...
