Mexico's President relies on talismans for security
Mexico's leftist leader has done away with the thousands of military escorts looking after the president and sent them to work "for the benefit of the people."
On this journey, AMLO was heading to one of a part of Mexico infested with drug traffickers and violent gangs. But he has no fear of being attacked, believing himself protected by an assortment of talismans.
"I have a lot of protection, this is a shield," he told AFP, holding up an image of the "Sacred Heart" of Jesus.
Among his other protective amulets, AMLO carries a four leaf clover and a dollar given to him by a Mexican migrant....
How ironic! I just finished listening to a podcast from the Library of Economics and Freedom, 'Econtalk' where they talk of the placebo effect. They mentioned a famous scientist--Nils Bohr or Einstein, who had a horse shoe over his door. Someone asked him, 'You don't really believe in that, do you?' to which he responded, "I've heard it brings you luck, whether you believe in it or not" And this reminds me of how many people read their daily horoscope in their newspaper.
I guess I can admire him for just wanting to be viewed as a down to earth, one with the people, good ole boy, and cutting any government excess to show his support, and to recognize those who are poverty stricken, but his ways are highly irresponsible, given his position. He causes chaos at the airports, onboard the flights, and every other public appearance he makes. Sounds to me like he is copying Pope Francis' approach to the people, but his interesting angle is working with a whopping 80% approval rating. Unfortunately, he is another lost and deluded soul, who can't be bothered with what God's Word has to say about anything, but chooses to put all of his faith into talismans, and good luck charms to form an invisible wall of protection around him. He says with these things, I can't be harmed...it's impossible to harm me, he says. Sad.
