Canadian Evangelical School Adapts LGBTQ Rules, Says Donations, Enrollment Are up
When the administration of Azusa Pacific University dropped the section of its student code of conduct that banned same-sex relationships last August, reaction was swift.
American Christian media and church leaders were quick to accuse the evangelical school of caving to societal pressure and compromising its Christian identity.
The response prompted the university‚Äôs board to reverse the change, affirming the definition of marriage as being between ‚Äúone man and one woman.‚ÄĚ
About the same time, Trinity Western University ‚ÄĒ Canada‚Äôs premier evangelical university ‚ÄĒ also made a change related to same-sex relationships, but in a different way and with different results....
2 Timothy 4:3-5 For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts, and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn away to fables. But you be sober in all things, suffer hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and fulfill your ministry.
Barnes Commentary wrote: Verse 3. For the time will come, etc. Probably referring to the time mentioned in 2 Timothy 3:1, seq.
When they will not endure sound doctrine. Greek, healthful doctrine; i.e., doctrine contributing to the health of the soul, or to salvation. At that time they would seek a kind of instruction more conformable to their wishes and feelings.
But after their own lusts. They will seek such kind of preaching as will accord with their carnal desires; or such as will palliate their evil propensities, and deal gently with their vices. Comp. Isaiah 30:10, "Speak unto us smooth things; prophesy deceits."
