Half of Millennial Christians Say It’s Wrong to Evangelize
Millennials used to be the group that churches and ministries were angling to evangelize. Now, all grown up and poised to overtake Baby Boomers as the largest generation, they’re the ones doing the evangelizing.

ut new research from Barna Group and the creators of the Alpha course offers some disappointing news regarding the 20-somethings and 30-somethings now on deck to carry on the faith: nearly half (47%) of practicing Christian millennials—churchgoers who consider religion an important part of their lives—believe that evangelism is wrong.

They’re more than twice as likely as their parents and grandparents—Boomers and Elders, respectively—to say that it’s “wrong to share one’s personal beliefs with someone of a different faith in hopes that they will one day share the same faith.” ...

Excellent post, NeedHim. When I first got saved, I wanted everyone to get saved—and I still do. The only people who don’t evangelize are lost people and backsliders.

Spurgeon; Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you're not saved yourself, be sure of that!'

Richard Baxter; 'I preached as never sure to preach again, & as a dying man to dying men.'

Ben’t ashamed of the gospel as there is no other power outside of Christ Alone, that can appease the wrath of God, or changes ones spiritual heart of stone away Alone. Here is a wonderful true life example of someone I know who is a evangelist preaching on the street, to a man who ended up dying!

The Bible clearly teaches ones to be doers & hearers, yes some times easier said than done. But it’s another reminder of ones daily need of Christ. When one gets the understanding that I am truly doing better than I am deserving of today, for what a wretch I am apart from Christ Alone. Is life changing wisdom & humility from Up Above Alone amen.

Pro 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, & he that winneth souls is wise.

Pro 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom & instruction.

What is the principal thing? Wisdom—Proverbs 4:7. Who is a wise person? “He that winneth souls is wise.” Regardless of what the Puritans and/or Reformers may have believed, you aren’t wise unless you evangelize.

Whether apostles still exist in the church or speaking in tongues still exist in the church I rather not argue. just making the point that if you love Jesus you won't be able to hold it in and you'll tell others about Him, and it will not be a burden but it will be joyful

Being a witness for Christ, or sharing a testimony or leading someone down the “Roman Road” of salvation is not evangelism as the Bible defines it in that regard.

Everyone is called to be a witness to the Gospel. But not everyone is called to be an evangelist (the office which ceased when the apostolic office ceased.) “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” (1 Peter 3:15). Everyone ought to give an answer for the hope that lies in them. But that is not evangelism." (apuritanmind.com)

Are you making the point that the evangelist and apostle titles are one in the same?

Where would you say the bible defines evangelism for us?

Thanks

"The Puritans believed, along with the Reformation, that it is not the responsibility of every Christian to be an evangelist, or to, in that sense, evangelize. This might go against the flow of what contemporary Christians think concerning sharing the Gospel, but those concepts are mutually different. For example, the Puritans thought that the “office” of an evangelist ceased when the office of the apostle ceased, (see John Owen on this – note his quote at bottom). They saw this as an extraordinary office, not an ordinary one. They also made a distinction between “evangelism” and “sharing the Gospel,” or, “being a witness for the Gospel.” Being a witness for Christ, or sharing a testimony or leading someone down the “Roman Road” of salvation is not evangelism as the Bible defines it in that regard. Jesus said "whoever is not with me is against me, whoever does not gather with me scatters". To be politically correct in their mind has become more important than testifying of their salvation. We know how it works God's spirit testifies to our new spirit that we are born again and that we have peace with God and we will go out and tell others because we're led by the spirit of God. To teach someone how to evangelize I don't know about that, even though I've taught evangelism classes I still lean towards Spirit lead so anyone who doesn't evangelize could be that they are not saved.

Whatever else can be said about the Alpha Course, it has been a runaway success. In 1991 there were just four courses involving 600 people; in 1993 there were fewer than 10 courses being held in Britain. Now there are an estimated 3,000 being run regularly three times a year, more than 500 of them overseas. These are being run by every denomination, including Catholic.

One difficulty in pinning down the problems with the Alpha Course is that each church running the course will use the materials in a different way. Thus it is feasible, in theory at least, that a church might avoid all controversy and simply use the course to preach the gospel to unbelievers. This does leave unanswered the question - why does any church need to buy a course to be able to preach the gospel?

However, there are deep concerns. Below I present some thoughts on the Alpha Course by a Christian (i) who grew alarmed when viewing the course materials. It is a personal view but I believe it speaks for many....

When you tell someone what will happen if they go 90 miles an hour in a 45 mile hr speed zone or drinking poison, you are not judging them but you are giving them a warning. The Church is to be like guardrails on the side of roads to warn as well as protect and the ambulance that’s sent to help someone that refuses to listen . There is only one road to heaven and that is the Calvery Road . The same road Jesus traveled and saved us from destruction It is God’s love that sent Jesus to that Cross. and that same love sends His own to warn and be a light to those still in darkness and that is not judging, We are to be the watchman on the wall giving the warnings when needed.

If it’s true that anytime someone disagrees with you he’s judging you, then it’s also true that anytime someone agrees with you he’s judging you. Therefore the only safe thing to do is to have no social intercourse whatsoever. The trick, of course, is how to find space for seven and a half billion hermits.

Barna president David Kinnaman points to the rising cultural expectation against judging personal choices. Practicing Christian millennials were twice as likely as Gen X and four times as likely as Boomers and Elders to agree with the statement, “If someone disagrees with you, it means they’re judging you.”

So many young minds have been molded into exactly what the mainstream media, and societal status quo, has directed them into believing and feeling as their world view, even right on down to the do's and dont's of being a Christian.

Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Probably the half of thinks there shouldn't be evangelism, are the half that's been exposed to the you are supposed to convert people to the Republican Party and only secondarily to Christianity

Dana Milbank wrote:
...Falwell said that years from now, "I don't think anybody is going to be sitting around thinking about whether Donald Trump said this or that on the videotape in 2005. I think they're going to be sitting around saying, 'Gosh, I wish we had different Supreme Court justices.' "

Or maybe they'll be wondering how differently things might have turned out if Falwell, with his ends-justify-the-means logic, hadn't made a deal with the devil and destroyed the moral credibility of the movement his father built.
