China forcing Christians to replace Jesus with Communist posters

The Communist government of China is continuing forcing Christians to replace posters of Jesus Christ with Communist leaders, and is turning pulpits into entertainment venues.

Religious liberty magazine Bitter Winter reports that Chinese authorities are going from town to town, demanding that Christian icons be replaced with pictures of Chairman Mao Zedong and President Xi Jinping.

Initial reports of the initiative came out back in 2017, though several Christians have said it continues in full force in different provinces.

Eighty-year-old Fei Zhongju from Xiayi county revealed what authorities told him after barging into his home in October 2018: ...

Seeing you seem to ignore what I am trying to say and just posting to make your case, will drop out of pointless discussion. Good day

It's interesting how Scripture says that we are not to elevate images but, seemingly, where there is allowance for those in areas of persecution.
I missed that part in Scripture.
If these images of Jesus are so important,as presented in that it is a tragedy for their removal, then clearly it is abominable for them to be posted at all.
Just because one discerns sin doesn't mean that one is perfect. If one is guilt of the sin in which they are exposing then they are hypocritical.
You seem to be suggesting that we are not to expose error?
Love speaks truth. If these people are attached to fake images of Jesus, it may very well be that they don't have a relationship with Him in the first place...perhaps they are RC.
Persecution doesn't dismiss God's Commandments.
Not condoning fake Jesus pictures is not tantamount to insensitivity unless you care to be align with the "we do whatever we please bunch"....or are ecumenical.
We need to be in prayer for these people ,perhaps even for their salvation or discernment as well.

I requested that SA remove my previous comment and apologize to sc and my own 2 cents for its harshness

The fact of the matter is all of us are a work in progress and we can only say we are what we are by the grace of God. If we have an understanding and practice of a truth in the Word of God it purely to the praise of His glory. If we notice others are in error in their practice it would behoove us to say something to the effect that we hope and pray that God would open their eyes to the correct thinking instead of condemning them for their lack of spiritual perception in a matter. We all can look back and say my previous doings in my Christian life were wrong. It should humble us that God led us into paths of righteousness for His sake and we should be gracious to our brethren who like all of us need correction from the Word of God

Well done, sc. On the one-month anniversary of Christmas, you say that there are two perfectly legitimate reasons to ban the holiday: knowledge and ignorance. In your world, I suppose that makes sense.

I can whole-heartedly agree with that. No matter who it is, persecuted or not, being wrong is wrong. There's no if's, ands, or buts about it.
Yes, we should pray for them, but we gotta call a spade a spade.

For those who think that "Jesus" pictures are okay...would it be okay to portray Him as Buddha? ...maybe there is a closer resemblance to him than Cesare Borgia...

I said that Christ is not being honored by false representations/images of Him.
It doesn't matter who portrays or has these images. Wrong is wrong.
If one is depending on that which is false for comfort, they are not only wrong but in dire need of the truth.

Just standing up for Scripture would make sense if the article was promoting having pictures of Jesus. It wasn’t. I am not sure how you can say you weren’t being critical when the first thing you said was Christ was not being honored by the Chinese Christians. Sounds like a criticism to me. I am not even disagreeing with the statement but obviously it wasn’t a truth of which these believers were cognizant

The pictures are unnecessary if they have his Spirit. No one was being critical...just standing for Scripture.
If they are at a loss without the pictures, they had nothing to begin with.

There is no way they think they are being conformed to a picture, so why even make the point. They’re not bowing down and worshipping the picture either. Not that there should be pictures of Jesus but let’s not criticize persecuted brethren because they aren’t perfect in their walk with God. All of us have room for much improvement

It's not that there is no brokenness,Unprofitable...I think that many of us are keenly aware and grateful for access to the Word so readily...the point against false images of Jesus is quite valid according to Scripture.
Sadly, if these people ,actually, are tied to these images, they are misguided.
Jesus, especially, fake Jesus, images is not to Whom his children are being conformed.

We in the West are sitting here with a full Bible, an internet with millions of sermons and even books and yet still here we have Christians in the thousands undoubtedly that sadly have so called portraits of Jesus. China has a heavily filtered internet and few in the country have full Bibles. It is understandable that they, particularly in their culture, though misguided would cherish what they consider to be portraits of Jesus. Look around your house and notice the pictures of those you love. But instead saying we are sad to see our brethren face persecution we chide them for not having grown enough in the faith to see that portraits of Jesus are inappropriate and say that what the Chicoms are doing is a blessing????

Nowhere in the article does it say the believers thought more of the portrait than they did of the Lord.

In some posts there is no brokenness that brethren are suffering or sadness for their misguided devotion. There is no, but for the grace of God there go I. Instead we find the condemnation that they should know better because I know better. We need to lay aside our pride and say if our brother is overtaken in a fault we would want them restored in a spirit of meekness. If a member suffers, we are supposed to suffer with him.

Where does the Holy Bible say to make portraits of Jesus Christ? Sounds like Catholics not Christians. Fake Christian News.

My Bible says:

Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods. Psalms 97:7

They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. Isaiah

Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation. Judges 10:14
42:17

""The Communist government of China is continuing forcing Christians to replace posters of Jesus Christ with Communist leaders""

This is an example of ignorance being in fear of specious religious practices.

Communism and the other worldly ideologies, such as socialism and Liberalism, run in fear of their followers being taken prisoner by Christianity and even nominal christianity.

But what it does demonstrate is the vulnerable and sensitive nature of mans ideologies. They feel threatened. The very fear of capitulation by their followers makes them attack and try to eradicate any vestige of Christianity.

Thus we observe the power of the Holy Spirit versus the evil spiritual realm and iniquity at work.

Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."

Eph 5:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

To 'Does this make sense',

I neither praised the Chinese govt nor disdained Chinese believers. You on the other hand violated the 9th Commandment by accusing me of it without clarifying my intent, putting an uncharitable construction on what I quoted from the article and Scripture?

I am an older Christian, I am threatened by govt in a different manner then the elder couple in the article, I almost continued to do as the govt suggested, which in my case, not being ignorant, would have been a denial of Christ. That is until the rod of correction was applied by my heavenly Father convincing me better to suffer then sin. The truth of Scripture for the comfort of poor sufferers is then most appreciated. Just this morning the temptations of poverty and the infirmity of age were hard pressing me. I sought my comfort in Scripture Psalm 18:27-30.

D. Fir those who share a common faith and practice have perfect society in spirit because they share a unity of faith, hope and love common to all believers in the trial of their faith, no matter their boundaries Acts 17:26. Though in this life, none be perfect in thought, word, or deed they share Christ's life and lot. I count Wang Yi my brother and pray for him as I'd hope he would for me - that we would be conformed to Chris

Douglas, Christians who would do without "christmas" hold that view because they know better. Communists who ban it, do so out of ignorance. Satan loves "christmas" too but discerning Christians wouldn't want to go to Hell.
