Like the ‚ÄúWhite Terror‚ÄĚ during the first Christmas, brothers and sisters of Early Rain Covenant Church, as members of the Lord Jesus, are currently walking the path that the Church's Head once walked. Authorities are continuing to suppress Early Rain Covenant Church through everything from criminal detention, administrative detention, enforced disappearances, stalking, and financial pressure to the seizing of church property.
On Christmas Eve, the 23rd-floor sanctuary of Early Rain Covenant Church was taken over by the Chengdu Qingyang District Shuangyanjing Community Police and converted to a community police office space. Linxishu Church, a church plant of Early Rain Covenant Church, was seized by the Pidu District authorities and community police. Comment readers will find this statement of faith and protest to the PRC government enlightening considering past discussions. There is a political aspect to their statement, but none more than we here in the United States have seen from the Founders of our republic in terms of government control of religious practices:
"For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:"
The Province to which the Founders alluded was Quebec, and they were particularly concerned that because the Crown had instituted Roman Catholicism as that Province's official religion, Anglicanism could be forced upon the English Colonies which were in revolt. After all, the Revolution was known in England for a time as the Presbyterian Rebellion, and the history of severe bloodshed in Scotland over the issue of instituting prelates was a history well remembered.
