Trump’s prison plan to release thousands of inmates
Sweeping changes to the federal prison system will allow tens of thousands of federal inmates to be released from prison over the next 10 years, but there’s little data about who or where they are now.

The legislation signed by President Donald Trump on Friday makes big changes to the treatment and rehabilitation of low-level federal prisoners.

Qualifying Inmates — mostly people who have committed low-level drug offenses — can earn credits to be released from prison early and serve the remainder of their sentence in home confinement or halfway houses if they participate in the plan’s anti-recidivism programs such as job training, education and faith-based classes. ...

The only real cure for recidivism is regeneration and sanctification. Legislation will never make a significant difference.

Sorry about the offense, I’m looking back at the comment, I stepped over the line. Outrageous commentary for an outrageous president.

Timothy, you should like it. It reverses some of the things that Billy Clinton and Bush44 did, which might make minorities more happy with Trump.

In May, the House of Representatives passed the First Step Act, H.R. 5682, by a vote of 360 to 59. The bill would implement risk assessments and recidivism reduction programming in federal prisons, as well as incentivize certain nonviolent prisoners to reduce their risk of reoffending through earned time credits that can be “cashed in” for placement in pre-release custody.

The issue of prisons is one I prefer not to tackle...

I just hope they don't let the 100's of Hill People go from last year's "Stop Discrimination of Cavemen" riots. Thats a nasty bunch right there...

Since this was the brainchild of Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, I can see why Donald Trump would feel favorable to it.
Samantha Michaels wrote:
The number of prisoners who could see shorter sentences for crack cocaine (about 2,600) or who could be released right away for good behavior (about 4,000) is relatively small when you consider that more than 1,700 people are released from US prisons every single day, notes Keith Humphreys, a Stanford psychiatry professor who writes about criminal justice for the Washington Post: “The First Step Act would be equivalent to having about three or four extra days of prison release during the year that the law passes, with even smaller effects from then forward. And almost none of the inmates released early would have committed violent crimes.”

President Donald Trump has said he will sign the measure, which would be the first major criminal justice bill to become federal law in about eight years. “This will keep our communities safer, and provide hope and a second chance, to those who earn it,” he tweeted.
