U.S. Dept of Education Offers Positive View on Homeschooling
During the final year of the Obama administration, U.S Secretary of Education John King took a nasty swipe at homeschoolers in what more than a few analysts viewed as the potential start of an attempted crackdown on educational liberty. By contrast, this month, the U.S. Department of Education used its official blog to highlight a successful Christian homeschooling family that thinks everyone should know their options.

Hopefully it is a sign of more positive changes to come at the far-left bureaucracy that has helped lead the way in destroying American education, culture, and morality for generations. But there is always a risk that the feds could be seeking to warm up to homeschoolers — even offering tax money and other perks as part of a “School Choice” model — as a means to achieving the longtime establishment goal of controlling them.

As part of its “RethinkSchool” series, the USED blog ran ...

QC, you made some good points as this video points out,

https://tinyurl.com/je8jrh3 (NET: Home School Nebraska)

It was actually done by our state educational network, really positive towards home schooling, with of course some obligatory negative comments by the Nebr. Ed. Assn.

Great perspective, Hal.

One thing to note is that Christian school as an option is expensive. And it may not remove all the problems of massing children together for institutional style mentoring & instruction. Homeschooling is the less expensive option while granting the opportunity to be very selective about curriculum and emphasis.

Your point about liberal/secular homeschooling should be well taken. For some, the school system isn't liberal enough...or other issues push parents to do it themselves.

Whatever the motivation, teaching children at home yourself flies in the face of the liberal establishment who insists that only those specially educated with master's degrees are qualified to teach children...which is utter nonsense.

Liberals screamed when the new head of the Dept of Education was announced, because they knew she was not going to follow the previous regime.
Voting has consequences, though I don't think changing the Dept of Education was high on anyone's agenda. The wall, immigration reform, yes, but not this.
Another point is that homeschooling does not automatically mean Conservative or Christian or Republican. Many in liberal places like California and Vermont are home schooling from a leftist viewpoint.
Still, it's not a significant portion of the kids being schooled today--I think a SermonAudio news item said that in North Carolina, homeschooled kids exceeded kids in private schools, which means a lot for churches that depend on those schools to help pay their own bills.
Too bad the Atlantic magazine wouldn't assign a reporter to cover that issue--why are so many kids being homeschooled instead of being sent to private schools? What does this say about the parent that has to stay home to do the homeschooling?
But--alas!--liberals like the editors of the Atlantic do not see any issue there because they only see what other liberals are talking about, and probably in this kind of story, there isn't anything negative to say about our current President Donald Trump.

This reminds me of the slow, but steady rise in socialism,(aka Communism with a fancy name), but how there are small victories in the midst of it...

We watched a movie last night called Agenda 2...

I would beg everyone here to watch that movie!

It explains, and clarifys EVERY issue we are facing today in our country...

(JAG and his affiliates are not compensated in any way by the promotion of this movie. Unless you consider a better nation, and smarter people a form of payment)...

Good points. HSLDA suggests that no homeschooling family accept money or assistance for education from the government to protect themselves from government interference.

Fathers, per Ephesians 6, are to raise their children, not to wrath, but in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. It's hard to do that while swimming upstream in the sewer of American public education. The Left has held sway over the educational public-industrial complex for so long that it is difficult to find any way to reform something so vile and broken. Homeschooling is an excellent option for the discerning Christian husband and wife.
