Analyst says 'New Age' beliefs more popular as fewer Americans follow traditional religions

The growing popularity of "New Age" beliefs likely stems in part from fewer Americans following traditional religions, according to political analyst Ruy Teixeira.

"The data suggests this is the fastest growing religious group in America, are people who don't hold any firm religious beliefs," Teixeira, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, said Wednesday on Hill.TV's "What America's Thinking."

"Perhaps these New Age beliefs are in a sense, at least partially, a reflection of more and more people not having an orthodox religious set of beliefs," he added.

Teixeira was discussing a recent Pew Research Center poll that found 62 percent of Americans hold New Age beliefs, such as astrology and the presence of spiritual energy in trees or mountains. ...

Tragically New Age is a terrible deception. It is basically an idolatrous worship of the “god” within, basically of self. It is a religion of works, and of experience.

Unfortunately, many “evangelicals” in the Charismatic and Emerging Church movements. because of their increasing Biblical illiteracy, and a total absence of solid doctrinal preaching from the pulpit, are developing their own versions of the New Age.

Certain very large, and many equally smaller churches, are driven by experience, esoteric practices, mystical music and atmosphere, and strange rituals, peppered with a few isolated Bible verses taken out of context, and strange “prophecies” and “revelations” from self appointed modern “prophets” and “apostles”.

it should be. evangelicals think that relgions that follow kabbal and zoratrianism are "ethnically pure" and "chosen by God". talk about end time deception and great falling away. and even when one's eyes are open this theme is dealt with from cover to cover of scripture. a remnant is called out of witchcraft... for we are related by adam and eve. and the first to rise was Christ. these false ideas might have been purged from the pulpits when they began some 60-70 years ago, they claim they are "counterculture" and "conservative" and yet bring a racially charged gospel, just as does the social justice warriors. yet we are supposed to play possum and not see that the language is the same, because it comes from the same father.

The Hill article was interesting, and the short video they had, well it was short and appreciated.

Pew Research may have indirectly inspired the Hill article and is a more detailed piece.

Claire Gecewicz wrote:
....While eight-in-ten Christians say they believe in God as described in the Bible, six-in-ten believe in one or more of the four New Age beliefs analyzed here, ranging from 47% of evangelical Protestants to roughly seven-in-ten Catholics and Protestants in the historically black tradition.

Moreover, religiously unaffiliated Americans (those who say their religion is atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular”) are about as likely as Christians to hold New Age beliefs....

Churches and parents are not doing as good as job as they should in teaching Christianity!

Since my poling place is quite close to me, I never really bothered with early voting. But today is the day, and I plan to head over to it in several hours.

The speaker comes from the Center for American Progress. I have never heard of this place--have you? Maybe it only exists in his mind and his fax machine. Or George Soros has paid for it, just like he paid for the group those 2 women who confronted Sen. Flake in the elevator during Judge Kavanaugh's fiasco of a hearing. I think Dems will rue the day they followed George Soros lead in doing that opposition act. Remember, even before the hearing began, the Dem Senators on that committee said they were going to vote NO.
Early voting is picking up as we get closer to Election Day--have you voted already or are you going to vote Tuesday?

I agree with the previous comments. The sad thing is that so many Christians have been deceived about these practices. Many true Christians practice yoga, listen to Oprah Winfrey etc

""The growing popularity of "New Age" beliefs likely stems in part from fewer Americans following traditional religions""

No! I believe the technical term for that conclusion is 'baloney.'

This stems from the erroneous idea in the reprobates that Christianity and Bible faith is a human innate faculty, or even an education process. In other words 'works based religion.'

Christianity and saving faith is the gift of God and nothing within the mortal has the ability to be able to achieve or accomplish faith.

So called 'new age beliefs' are simply the sinful convictions of the unsaved to emulate religion. These convictions are best identified as superstitions. A product of the sinners imagination. In other words this is the product of false witness within the community.

Liberalism in the churches is of the same worldly product. As is Romish beliefs, JW's, Mormons and other fictional religious presumptions.

Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"

The term 'sleight' here means deception found in playing with dice. Those who played with dice were seen as cheats and frauds.

Well, I know that it's become wildly popular around these parts, and I think the yoga rage has a whole lot to do with it. Yoga has attracted many things to it...Buddhist philosophy, transcendental meditation, reikki, mother Earth/universal energy...new age, and all under the guise of innocence. Essential oils have become a normal part of the yoga studios as well. There's nothing wrong with the oils themselves, but they're being combined with sage burning, and spiritual cleansing, etc., so even they are being polluted in their uses, and often promoted and sold by lesbian Gaia worshippers. I heard one tell people that she had some issue, and asked the universe which oil she should use.
I know all of this because two people I know well opened a yoga studio within the past year.
