Mormon no more: Tabernacle Choir renamed in big church shift

The world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be singing the same tune but under a new name.

The choir was renamed Friday to strip out the word Mormon in a move aimed at ending shorthand names for the religion that have been used for generations by church members and others.

The singers will now be called the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said in a statement . It’s a nod to the home of the choir for the last 150 years, the Tabernacle, located on church grounds known as Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. ...

Jim, your comment brought this verse to mind, quoting the Apostle Paul --

For now we see through a glass darkly: but then shall we see face to face. Now I know in part: but then shall I know even as I am known. And now abideth faith, hope and love, even these three: but the chiefest of these is love. - 1 Corinthians 13:12-13

Faith and hope grounded on and in Jesus Christ brings forth that chiefst thing, love.

Dr. Keller is a noted author but also a liberal one who has helped lead his denomination down the broad path that ends in destruction through his championing of feminist and other progressive ideals. He is not a reliable voice. Again, Jim, I would not listen to him.

Princeton cut ties to any kind of Biblical understanding years ago. The language they use has no bearing on anyone else who claims Christ except for the NCC.

Yet we who are Christian are all just works in progress, running the race of faith toward Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). We are not perfect yet. And neither are you. May the Lord lead us, and you, to a clearer understanding of Who He is and what He asks of us.

Michael Gerson wrote:
As the prominent evangelical pastor Tim Keller—who is not a Trump loyalist—recently wrote in The New Yorker, “ ‘Evangelical’ used to denote people who claimed the high moral ground; now, in popular usage, the word is nearly synonymous with ‘hypocrite.’ ” So it is little wonder that last year the Princeton Evangelical Fellowship, an 87-year-old ministry, dropped the “E word” from its name, becoming the Princeton Christian Fellowship: Too many students had identified the term with conservative political ideology. Indeed, a number of serious evangelicals are distancing themselves from the word for similar reasons.

I, for one, will continue to call them Mormons, or occasionally LDS, (the abbreviated form), but never the full form, Latter Day Saints, as Biblically they are not saints, Latter day or otherwise. They are also not part of the Church of Jesus Christ (Latter Day or otherwise), and no Mormon President will make me say otherwise.

I think 2 principles are operating here. This President Nelson wishes to perpetuate the myth that Mormons are actually Christians, and therefore members of the Church of Jesus Christ, but I think also that a satirical musical theatrical presentation, called the “Book of Mormon”, which is successfully “treading the boards” in a London theatre, and I suspect probably Broadway in New York before that, has not gone down too well with the Mormon hierarchy.

I suspect that the new name for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, that of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square will take a long time to get fully established, and is rather a mouthful!!! I’m not sure how successful that particular piece of deception will prove to be!!

As I have personally have spent a decent amount of years of reaching out to the LDS, community, in sharing truth with them, by sharing in love. Why LDS definitions of Biblical meanings aren’t on the same playing field, of what the actual Biblical meanings are.

Regardless if Mormons are nice, & good coworkers, & so on. If one is holding onto what Joseph Smith started as ones foundation, in saying a total apostasy of the Church took place. Before Joseph Smith came to be the Knight in shining Armor to restore, what was lost. One has another foundation, then Mat 16:18, no Church saves ones, Jhn 14:6. As one foundation better be of what Christ has done & has to do for one alone, Jhn 10:25-28, Rom 3:10-12. For Christ foundation has already has been built & doesn’t need the aide off fallen sinners trying to establish their own righteousness; Jer 17:9, Isa 64:6! As the Mormon Jesus had to progress to become a God, like other Gods, did before him. What utter blasphemy, & another reminder to share truth in love, that God, would open up harden soil, that has spiritual eyes of personal deception, that = Gals 1:6-9 amen!

The Mormon heresy seeks to extend its influence in the world so removes any possible hurdles such as the term Mormon.

This is the same kind of deception as those who hide behind the lie of the word "gay" to try and convince the gullible that they are 'normal' and 'acceptable.'

Satan adds words and changes the meanings of words to confound the nations and make his access into society easier.

Satan's hobby amongst the people is deception.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

2Cor 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works."

Mormons E. Parry Thomas and Jerome Mack financed the first Las Vegas casinos. Also, Mormons have been trusted staff for operations; I knew one who had a relative who helped rig the odds for slot machines (UK: fruit machines).

I am thankful my parents soured on Las Vegas and shunned the place for our vacations, even though they weren't very "religious."

"I have to admit many times Mormons are considered strange because of their honesty and integrity, but I don't think I would call them spooky."

The only mormon I've ever met was spooky, dishonest, and did not have integrity. My dad did some construction stuff for him and got stuck by him. But then again, I would expect nothing else from you than an advocacy of the wicked.

Hate to admit it but the Mormons put out some of the best renditions of Christian music found on the the internet.

Alas it will not profit them in the judgment day

The thing that always gets me is how so many billions adhere to religions and cults that were invented by mere men, or women, in our more recent history. Islam, and Buddism, etc., are a bit older, 500's and 600's, respectively, but still mere inventions of man. Then we have Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Christian Science, etc., etc., where were are talking like the 1800's, and early 20th century, which is so odd to me. God waited thousands of years to tell mankind how to be saved or get to Heaven/Paradise, etc.? I just don't understand the logic of all of those who follow after the inventions of man, and so much so, that they trust them with where they will spend eternity.

John of UK, I seriously wouldn't call Mormons spooky. We had one that was a presidential candidate, and he wasn't spooky especially compared to what the Republicans have had. I have to admit many times Mormons are considered strange because of their honesty and integrity, but I don't think I would call them spooky. Unfortunately, they can't be called Christian either.
