In 2015, Inc. began quietly evaluating a startup called Elemental Technologies, a potential acquisition to help with a major expansion of its streaming video service, known today as Amazon Prime Video. Based in Portland, Ore., Elemental made software for compressing massive video files and formatting them for different devices. Its technology had helped stream the Olympic Games online, communicate with the International Space Station, and funnel drone footage to the Central Intelligence Agency. Elemental’s national security contracts weren’t the main reason for the proposed acquisition, but they fit nicely with Amazon’s government businesses, such as the highly secure cloud that Amazon Web Services (AWS) was building for the CIA.

If you're really curious this maybe the place to go to find out all that you don't want to know about Hauwai's CFO and the company itself.
Brooke Sample wrote:
The ongoing trade conflict between the world’s two biggest economies dominated headlines in the weeks before U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping broke bread at the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires. But it was the arrest of Huawei Technologies Co.’s chief financial officer in Canada on the same day the leaders met that exposed some of the rifts between the two countries. Wanzhou Meng, the CFO (and the daughter of Huawei’s founder), faces extradition to the U.S. over Huawei’s potential violations of American sanctions against Iran. She was charged Friday in a Vancouver court with conspiracy to defraud banks. What it all means for trade relations and national security boundaries between China and the U.S. are pressing questions — and Bloomberg Opinion writers have explored, and will continue to explore,....

That's just what we know...

All the Americans buying Chinese phones are in for it too.
Huweui, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Zte, and many others are Chinese companies and obviously controlled by the Chinese government.

The companies themselves are guaranteed access to the phones to fix software issues. So I personally think it's not that hard to take the one step forward and give the info to the Communist Government.

Electronics made in China are not the safest this to have, and we're surrounded by them đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€

Frightening. And there is all this hullabaloo about Russian interference with this clear intrusion into US sovereignty? Misplaced priorities at best, Chinese influence operations putting a spotlight on the Russians while the PRC steals the bank at worst.
