The best way for relaxation is to hear a mild relaxing song and lie closing the eyes. It helps us to think away from the tensions. Also, holy songs help to divert our thoughts. By the way great music.
I don't think a word should be held hostage because of how many tend to define it. Personally, when I hear the word, meditate, as a Christian, my mind goes to, think on, ponder, and consider, etc., etc. I get the jist, but don't consider it a poor choice of wording because someone has bigger problems if they visualize themselves in a lotus position while drifting through other dimensions after reading the word. You're definately right though in that this world tends to define its meaning as something much different...sinister, but disguised in innocence as a tool for transcendence, personal empowerment, connecting to the universe, and even a precursor to soul travel, etc. Maybe you were considering these who may pop in, see and misunderstand the meaning behind it.
"Meditation" has two senses: the Eastern kind fashionable among foolish Westerners ever since the '60s, the purpose of which is emptying one's mind (as if that were difficult for unbelievers), and the Biblical one, which is thinking rationally about something, hopefully God's Law.
Now hearing music may be pleasant and relaxing, but let's not call it "meditation" unless one is a musicologist trying to analyze the form and content.
Medications gives indefinite relief of mind while having in stress. Thanks for sharing beautiful new piano meditations collections produced by Joseph Simmons which is also available online!
