After Shuttering 700 Churches, Rwanda Proposes Stricter Clergy Guidelines
After closing more than 700 churches and some mosques in March, Rwandan government officials have moved to institute guidelines for how faith groups operate in the majority-Christian East African country.

Rwanda’s minister in the office of the president has brought to Parliament a draft law that would require Christian and Muslim clerics to attain university education before preaching in churches or mosques. The law would require clerics to have a bachelor’s degree and a valid certificate in religious studies. It would also bar clergy who have been convicted of crimes of genocide, genocidal ideology, discrimination or other sectarian practices.

“I agree with the law. Some of our church groups have been operating in a dangerous manner,” Evalister Mugabo, bishop of the Lutheran Church in Rwanda, told Religion News Service. ...

My suspicion is that the Rwandan Government is seeking to use the appalling theology of many of the fringe prosperity doctrine churches which are rife in Africa, as an excuse to regulate all religion and bring in a registration system.

While this is bad for genuinely evangelical and gospel preaching biblical churches, it should clean up the multifarious sham churches and hyper-faith health wealth assemblies where you must tithe to the pastors (“the man of God”, so called) to make them rich, and also a lot of syncretisation part “Christian” part African traditional “churches” and assemblies that proliferate in so many countries in Africa.

they don't have to shut down churches here.

they simply brought in the cultural marxist factions (conducive to 501c3 statutes) and all the happy little church people think they are helping God out by doing sermons on antibullying, antiracism, etc.... leaving behind the defense of their communities from its destructive effects....

feminists who declare themselves to be traditionalists but want to uplift women into the new order matrix instead of returning our society to traditional practices...

..people with heavy metal poisoning suddenly don't need "counseling" when the heavy metals are removed and the neuro pathways are no longer poisoned.

funny how that works.

but if you can get the strong leader to step down out of guilt, its far better to have state churches and effeminate preachers than to have to go to the trouble of sending in boots.

It sounds like Rwanda’s government is a mishmash of communism’s influence and the social engineering that helped China and Russia move forward toward domination of Africa. That law will then change to having only Rwanda seminary trained clergy and the only approved seminary must be state approved. Either that or Rwanda is developing into a Islamic republic.

There are many powerful preachers who lack formal education, and many educated preachers who lack power. Of course there are also those who lack both. Blessed is that people whose pastor has both.

the church failed to hold it's preachers accountable to biblical standards of maturity, so now the government steps in.

Either you'll be governed by God or by God you'll be governed.
