Trump: ‘I’m Putting Conservative People’ on the Supreme Court
President Trump said Sunday his Supreme Court pick would be a conservative and that the issue of abortion may go back to the states, even as moderate Sen. Susan Collins said she would not vote for someone who was hostile to Roe v. Wade.

Trump made his comments on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.

The folks Down Under, really do keep track of what happens in the United States. For a detailed example--
Sandeep Gopalan wrote:
...Even if Roe is overruled — unlikely given public opposition — abortion will not become impossible. It will become an issue for the states and many states will legislate provisions enshrining it as a legal right.

Therefore, Judge Kavanaugh's nomination must be examined in the light of his record as a judge to determine if he is fit for confirmation. Overblown rhetoric about Roe will not aid that process.

I have my doubts that queer privileges will be controlled, or death penalties be supported?
Matthew Nussbaum wrote:
...According to the D.C. Circuit Court website, Kavanaugh serves meals with Catholic Charities in Washington and has tutored at Washington Jesuit Academy, where he sits on the board of directors, and at J.O. Wilson Elementary School. He’s also a fan of the Washington Nationals and coaches youth basketball, according to Gansler.

Don, I would especially recommend that you look at the last URL which is a writing by John MacArthur:

"There is, however, today in Christianity in its evangelical element, an emphasis on another kind of effort. It is an effort to produce morality. And this is growing rapidly. I have through the years addressed the issue on a number of occasions but it seems as though it needs to be addressed again because the interest is only being heightened today."

Don, I'll ask you how did Prohibition turn out?

This is certainly good news and I support it completely. Elections have consequences, and the last guy was going to transform the country from being there 2 terms. It's time to give conservatives a chance to run the country, but the mainstream media is set on a 'destroy the US" all the time. Just like they 'suffered' from 'Bush Derangement Syndrome' (and we can argue whether Bush was a real conservative), now they suffer from "Trump Derangement Syndrome'

David Brooks wrote:
...Well, it’s like we got our old Republican Party back, because these three are not Trumpy people [The Supreme Court picks]. They are pretty elite, pretty established

And it’s a testament to the Federalist Society, which is a conservative legal society that started in the 1980s, designed to create — to turn talent into judgeships. And they have done a fantastic job over the last several decades of producing just this funnel of talent that goes up to all the courts, but especially the Supreme Court.

And so, whoever the Republican president is, there is just this whole series of people who are well-qualified, pretty temperate, well-connected with each other. And they’re just ready-made. So, it’s made to order.

John Y., I believe two of the picks are Catholic which means they are pro-homosexual. So there will probably be very little done about queer marriages Etc.

Good. If Trump puts enough conservative judges on the Supreme Court to make a conservative majority then abortion and homosexual marriage will be outlawed.

As many of you I've been quoting George Will quite a bit. But he has made me rethink another action, the Janus decision. George Will made a very good argument supporting the latest Supreme Court decision❗
George Will wrote:
The Supreme Court is especially admirable when correcting especially deplorable prior decisions, as with the 1954 school desegregation decision rejecting a 1896 decision’s “separate but equal” doctrine. It did so again last Wednesday, overturning a 41-year-old precedent inimical to the First Amendment....

...It is a “bedrock principle that, except perhaps in the rarest of circumstances, no person in this country may be compelled to subsidize speech by a third party that he or she does not wish to support.” Which is what the court now says regarding compulsory financial support of government-employee unions....

--]] (With its Janus decision, the Supreme Court corrected itself on First Amendment freedoms)

The article that I referenced in my earlier post about the Janus decision - you can see that George wouldn't think much of that

George gave a good reason why stare decisis can be ignored.

Can you still find 'conservatives' in the US?

In the UK conservatives have been extinct since Maggie Thatcher.

David Cameron masqueraded as a conservative and was allowed to impersonate a conservative politician. But everybody saw that he is a devout Liberal. Even Nick Clegg (Lib.Dem) was jealous of Cameron's Liberal politics.

Today Theresa May leads a Liberal party ideologically, tangibly and de facto. But strangely she calls them the "Conservative Party"

Leadership, management and governance are now banned to be replaced by Liberalism a form of anarchic, innocuous and vacuous bureaucracy.

The end is now!!

"Good liberal" is an oxymoron if there ever was one, Jiminy.

Now since justice is supposedly blind, I'm not sure why someone would pick a liberal, moderate or conservative justice. Their job is to interpret what the constitution says not necessarily according to what their individual ideologies are.

By the way, I am only being sarcastic in the above.

I was going to put a comment by the Republican David Brooks about this and he didn't think Justice Roberts will try to overrule it. But I think this woman, who no doubt is a good liberal, points out that Roe versus Wade will get gutted.
Irin Carmon wrote:
In an interview, Reva Siegel, a constitutional law professor at Yale, sketched out a possible two-step scenario akin to Roberts’s rulings on the Voting Rights Act. He stopped short of gutting a key provision in a 2009 case, but laid the groundwork. Four years later, Roberts had a precedent to cite in his majority opinion in Shelby County v. Holder, which struck at the heart of a long-standing federal law.

Politically, Siegel added, overturning Roe immediately could mobilize progressives for the 2020 election, which Roberts surely understands. Part of the problem is that Roe v. Wade is]] overwhelmingly popular — all the more reason to avoid saying the words “Roe is overruled.”

--]] (Yes, conservatives will try to undo Roe v. Wade. The only question is how.)
