In just the past two weeks, the court has sided with anti-abortion advocates, a Christian baker who objects to same-sex marriage, and the Trump administration’s travel ban. But it has also left itself some flexibility to change its mind in the future.
This is why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell held the court's vacant seat open for more than a year, so that Trump could fill it instead of President Obama. It worked.
Between the lines: In the most important cases of its current term, which ends tomorrow, the court has either sided with conservatives directly or handed them temporary wins by punting....
• Justice Kennedy's decision was motivated by his decision to spend more time with his family • He is a traditional conservative who sometimes joined the liberal justices on key rulings, earning a reputation as the court's "swing" vote • Mr Trump said he would begin a search immediately for a new justice, with a list of 25 candidates
....High court could now move to right on major social issues....

The Supreme Court is going to get mighty boring. QUOTE][AUTHOR]George Will wrote: ...In today's GOP, which is the president's plaything, he is the mainstream. So, to vote against his party's cowering congressional caucuses is to affirm the nation's honor while quarantining him. .... And to those who say, "But the judges, the judges!" the answer is: Article III institutions are not more important than those of Articles I and II combined.--]]https://tinyurl.com/yd4ps4ub (This November, cast your vote against the GOP)
I am very happy with these decisions. I am very happy with the retirement of Justice Kennedy. I look forward to seeing a conservative justice replace him.
If there ever was a case to say that 'elections have consequences' then this is it. There is a difference between Democrats and Republicans and this is a key one. Another is the way Dems have decided to show their opposition to anyone who disagrees with them. There is no debate, no calm and reasonable interchange of ideas. Instead, you have people 'behaving badly' (to say the least). They really need to wear Brown Shirts to show how similar they are to the folks who supported the National Socialist Party in Germany in the 1930s, and the Fascists in Italy with Mussolini.
It will be interesting to see what Shields and Brooks will have to say about this, on the PBS NewsHour this Friday.

Truth is still lying dead in the street & justice still stands afar off. A tiny portion of the injustice in the US was addressed by the Supreme Court, and Lord be praised for His mercy in these decisions. But there is so much more to do and so much left undone.
