Younger Adults are Less Religious, and Not Only in the US

The study, which finds that younger people the world over are generally less religious than their elders, determined that the pattern is generally reversed where prosperity and life expectancy lag. Life expectancy in Chad and Ghana is among the lowest in the world.

The survey of 106 nations, drawn from 13 studies undertaken over the past decade, shows that nearly everywhere else, young adults are drifting away from the faith commitments of their elders. The gap appeared to be widest in most economically developed countries.

“We’re not able to say, ‘This is the law of religious change that we can deduce from this evidence,” Conrad Hackett, the lead researcher for the Pew study, said. “It’s rather, ‘These are the general patterns we see.’ There are exceptions for sure.” ...

I doubt the validity of the study, in part because it is from "Pew Research" which means it is liberal in bent, and seeking to explain only things that fit within that ideology. Lack of religion is a good thing for them. Better to look at Barna Research for information on Christianity.
World-wide? How did they speak to the millions of Hindus in India, the Buddhists in Thailand, the Japanese with Confucianism? And when dealing with Islamists, the principle of 'taqqiya' applies, which means they can lie and deceive, if they believe they are doing it for the good of their religion.

""nearly everywhere else, young adults are drifting away from the faith commitments of their elders.""

Is this a surprise?

History repeats itself....
Judges 2:10 And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.
11 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim:
12 And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.
13 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth."

The religion of the modern churches is Liberalism - And also is the 'religion' of society today.

Only the Remnant can obey the Bible.

Romans 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace"

As for the unsaved...
Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;"

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those are good. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof, from such turn away. (1 Timothy 3:1-5) AV.

Islam is taught from birth, the Koran is taught as a way of life, prayer is taught as essential, and usually they adopt it even as adults, and live by it.

Christianity is largely not taught from birth, there is no bible in the home, and prayer is not taught at all, and the result is obvious.

For behold, the day cometh that shall burn as an oven, and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble, and the day that cometh, shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, and shall leave them neither root nor branch. - Malachi 4:1

It seems to me that this verse helps explain what is happening as well as stands as a warning for those young (and older, too) people who live in their pride and wickedness and do not turn to the Lord in repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. They will be without root - both a reflection of not being connected to their own families and to that True Vine in John 15. Instated, the new globalism through globalization is creating a new, virtual Tower of Babel. Turning from the Christian faith of their fathers for this new wave with also leave them without branch and friut - of the Spirit and their own bodies as well.
