As one group of faith leaders celebrates the fruits of a decades-long alliance with the Republican party, another is mounting a multi-faith challenge to the dominance of the Christian right, in an attempt to recapture the moral agenda.
‚ÄúThere is no religious left and religious right,‚ÄĚ Barber, a pastor and political leader in North Carolina, told the Guardian. ‚ÄúThere is only a moral center. And the scripture is very clear about where you have to be to be in the moral center ‚Äď you have to be on the side of the poor, the working, the sick, the immigrant.‚ÄĚ
Frustrated by conservative Christians’ focus on culture wars over issues such as abortion and gay marriage, Barber leads an ascendent grassroots movement that is trying to turn the national conversation to what they believe are the core teachings of the Bible: care for the poor, heal the sick, welcome the stranger....

Liberal pastors or denominations always present Jesus as a hippie teacher who got himself killed by the ‚Äú man‚ÄĚ, buried and that‚Äôs it. God is only used as a curse against their enemies and you‚Äôre on your own. So, how, does one think that any of that is actually biblical.
Main line liberal churches around me are actually losing steam. While Im not a big fan of modern forms of worship, some local Mega Churches around me are picking up and drawing lots of people with conservative Sermons.
"Liberal theologians, like Humpty Dumpty, instead of using words in their generally understood sense, are constantly giving them their own meanings‚ÄĒof which their readers or hearers are not always aware. When Bishop John Robinson used the word ‚ÄėGod‚Äô in his book Honest to God, he gave it an entirely new meaning. No longer is God the almighty and sovereign Creator and Redeemer; rather, He is simply the ‚ÄėGround of Our Being‚Äô, the quintessence of man. Bishop Robinson then continues to use the word ‚ÄėGod‚Äô, but with his meaning attached to it‚ÄĒthus spreading confusion amongst those who are unaware of his definition of the word. When liberals like John Robinson or David Jenkins recite the opening clause of the creed, ‚ÄėI believe in God . . .‚Äô, they do not mean what we mean by it. As Alice objected to Humpty Dumpty‚Äôs misuse of language, so we must object when liberal theologians do the same thing; ‚ÄėThe question is, whether you can make words mean so many different things" (Reg Burrows. "Theological Liberalism)
The core teaching of the Bible is to have faith in Jesus Christ, not a social agenda focused on the less fortunate. Having faith in Jesus should cause believers to have concern and compassion for the less fortunate, starting with sharing their faith with those who don't share it...very unfortunate...but to attempt to put works before faith is like putting the cart before the horse. Reminds me of the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats.
