Schools fret as teens take to vaping

Sneaking a cigarette in the school bathroom? How quaint. Today's teens have taken to vaping, an alternative to smoking that's so discreet they can do it without even leaving the classroom.

Health and education officials across the country are raising alarms over wide underage use of e-cigarettes and other vaping products.

The devices heat liquid into an inhalable vapor that's sold in sugary flavors like mango and mint - and often with the addictive drug nicotine. They're marketed to smokers as a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes, but officials say they're making their way to teens with surprising ease.

A new wave of smaller vapes has swept through schools in recent months, officials say, replacing bulkier e-cigarettes from the past. It's now common in some schools to find students crowded into bathrooms to vape, or performing vape tricks in class. ...

What's interesting from these articles is the clear separation the youth experience from the parents. Public schools clearly divide them from their parents, and make the teachers responsible for them. But then we all know, the parents themselves don't have time for them, and without the schools babysitting them, most of them will become hooligans who would graffiti the walls, and vandalize property, all because they have too much time and nowhere to go. So sitting and playing online video games is actually more beneficial than being a drug addicted hooligan.

Hey! I used to hang out in the library. We used to have a smoking wall at our school where the kids would hang out and smoke. Everyone accepted it as such and us dorks and geeks would stay clear, unless we wanted an atomic wedgie or something. Now it's all out in the open, and it seems the authority figures of the world are basically powerless to do anything about it.

I smoke several packs a day, I try to at least, and I sleep with a hookah tube in my mouth in case I wake up and want a puff. I always have at least half a can of Copenhagen in my mouth, too, so I'm spitting all day, wherever I go, on the sidewalks, cars...everywhere.
I don't know why any of this would bother anyone when they can easily purchase and wear a respirator while out and about.
On a more serious note, vaping...I think the reason it's claimed to be a safe alternative, is because it was too new for any true, long term studies to say otherwise. Not only do the oils have chemicals as well, although not as many or as toxic as tobacco perhaps, but it's an oil, and that will coat the lungs. I believe that long term vaping will in fact have serious consequences, or at least lead to some sort of health concerns.
It seems to me that if something comes along that is deadly, society embraces it. Everything is truly turned upside down in the world, isn't? Sad.

What a disgusting habit. Smoking, chewing, and "vaping". All disgusting and destructive.
