GQ Editors Bash Bible as 'Foolish Book' Not Worth Reading
GQ magazine editors have published a list of 21 books they say aren't worth reading despite them being seen as the great books. The Bible is listed at No. 12 because, they claim, it's "not the finest thing that man has ever produced," and it's "self-contradictory" and "foolish."
"The Holy Bible is rated very highly by all the people who supposedly live by it but who in actuality have not read it," the editors write in an article titled, "21 Books You Don't Have to Read," published this week.
"Those who have read it know there are some good parts, but overall it is certainly not the finest thing that man has ever produced," they continue. "It is repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned," claim the editors of the international monthly men's magazine based in New York City....

I was weaned on the NIV, and I will speak highly of it, I use the NKJ and other versions too. Misreading other people's quotes and picking fault with other Christians is very unhelpful to others, not building up but tearing down. Love you brother.
Savedbygrace, I'm glad to see that you can say good things about other versions of the Bible. The NIV 1984 version is considered a very good version. In fact I push the app for Android, NIV1984.app which is on the Google Play Store quite a bit here when the need arises. It also contains the KJV and you can even read them together. It is a great aid in translating the KJV.
So I'm sorry I got the opinion that you are like many Americans, a KJVO type I hope you keep finding the KJV a continual blessing to you

i have a question: upon asking my husband to give up something to worship the Lord by abstinence, he said "i wont go leasing the Lord" has anyone heard of this? he said he read it, i'm thinking he misread
Savedbygrace from Nottingham U.K., I would point out many English speakers are not prolific in Elizabethan ā
Dr. Robert Joyner wrote: .... I also find it disturbing that the KJV Only group can write books, preach sermons and talk continually against all other versions. However, the minute I point out errors in the KJV, they call me a āBible correctorā and an unbeliever, and other names. Why is it all right for them to blaspheme Godās word found in other versions but no one can even point out undeniable facts about the KJV?
I want to solemnly warn those who condemn all translations besides the KJV that they are blaspheming Godās word. Those who magnify the differences between Greek texts and versions are blaspheming Godās word. If a person wants to use only the KJV, that is well and good. However, if they tear down all other versions, they are destroying peopleās faith in Godās word. That is a wicked sin. Those who insist on a KJV Only view are causing a division in the body of Christ. This is a very serious sin. Do not be a partaker of their evil deeds. God will hold you responsible. (Psalm l38:2; Romans 14:12) Be sure you are worshiping King Jesus and not King James.

1 Corinthians 1
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
From a good book, Thoughts For Young Men. Good reading for teenagers to read amen;
JC Ryle; Be very sure of this ā people never reject the Bible because they canāt understand it. They understand it too well; they understand that it condemns their own behavior; they understand that it witnesses against their own sins, & summons them to judgment. They try to believe itās false & useless, because they don't like to believe itās true.
Without a Biblical Worldview & secondly without being regenerated from up above alone. The lost canāt even account for reasoning, logic, ethics, morality, etc.
So the GQ writers saying the Bible is Foolish, self-contradictory, etc, is just their fallen opinon, that loves to surepress truth in acts of unrighteousness, as they are held without no excuses amen; Rom 1:18-28!
Spurgeon; He that reads his Bible to find fault with it will soon discover that the Bible finds fault with him.
