Government vs. God? People are less religious when government is bigger

Researchers call it an exchange model of religion: If people can get what they need from the government (be it health care, education or welfare) they’re less likely to turn to a divine power for help, according to the theory.

In a new paper, psychology researchers crunched the numbers — and found that better government services were in fact linked to lower levels of strong religious beliefs.

I should have said these churches are --not-- doing wrong -- and my previous message, unless they're using their welfare programs as a hook to draw people in

Oh by the way Tiny Tim:

Mike Lofgren wrote:
I am a strong critic of America’s politics, but I am confident our problems can be redressed with good faith and the will to succeed.

.... Certainly, the country faces serious problems: domestically, our prosperity is more unequally shared than at any time ]]since the days of Calvin Coolidge, [ http://tinyurl.com/kb7ly4k ] and there is a chronic disinvestment in infrastructure. Abroad, we are too prone to assume every crisis requires military intervention.

How did this happen? Domestically, it was through economic policies begun by Ronald Reagan (and continued by Democrat Bill Clinton) and doubled down on by George W. Bush....

Perhaps one reason that the church influence is down because many people are members just for the welfare benefits. This is not saying that the Catholics, ]]https://tinyurl.com/y8vr6gud (Health Care, Catholic Care, and Catholic Culture), many Lutheran Churches and particularly the Mormon Church are doing wrong in this:

3. Helping to supply the needs of the membership.

Mormons are known for being generous, even going out of their way to help their fellow members. Many times a group of Mormons will band together to help in a project that benefits another Mormon. The LDS Church also has a welfare program, with a food pantry available for members who are out of work or in a low-income category....

Conclusion: By making this list, I certainly would not want to insinuate that all Christian churches fail in these areas. And these are certainly not reasons to authenticate the Mormon Church....

No one has ever accused people of joining an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church or staying in one for the welfare benefits.

There are three things we should be very wary of: big government, psychology, and any comments Jim Linkin makes regarding this article.

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a King to judge us: and Samuel prayed unto the Lord. And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hear the voice of the people in all that they shall say unto thee: for they have not cast thee away, but they have cast me away, that I should not reign over them.As they have ever done since I brought them out of Egypt even unto this day, (and have forsaken me, and served other gods) even so do they unto thee. - 1 Samuel 8:6-8

Nothing new under the sun.
