A chapter a day to counter theistic evolution
Theistic Evolution: A Scientific, Philosophical, and Theological Critique is a 962-page destruction of the well-funded BioLogos campaign to sell macroevolution to Christians. Thoughtful chapters by scholars and scientists show that neo-Darwinism fails scientifically, with neither the fossil record nor genetics undermining the first two chapters of Genesis. Transitional ape-to-human fossils remain conspicuous by their absence, and humans and chimpanzees are not similar at the genetic level. We cannot worship both God and current science dogma.

It was hard to pick out just one element from this comprehensive work, which made WORLD’s short list for 2017 Book of the Year in the Origins category, so here’s the introduction by Stephen C. Meyer, courtesy of Crossway, which reveals many of the book’s components. While pastors and others are unlikely to read this book all in one sitting, a chapter a day ...

Some Christians can find, for some reason, progressive creationism, evolution, to be believable, acceptable, and still believe in our Creator, and that His hand decided to evolve all forms of life over billions of years...for some reason, but the very scientifically weak, and full of major holes and hoaxes, theory of evolution, gives the rest of this world a perfect reason and excuse, not to believe in our Creator, but mere chance, and the freedom to live as one pleases, without repercussion, guilt, or judgement. Live as you will, and then pass on into oblivion...a license to live free of remorse, and eternal judgement. Hopelessness for others.

Chris G, aside from your argument that progressive creation compromises God's "very good" creation, what other reasons do you have for rejecting progressive creation? It still affirms a historical Adam and Eve who are specially created by God.

While "day age progressive creation" and the even more radical "theistic evolution" are very obvious dangers and gross compromises against the Biblical account of Creation in Genesis, there is a third much more subtle compromise regrettably held by many leading evangelicals, and that is the gap theory.

Inserting a gap of no doubt millions of years between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, and putting in some kind of former creation before the actual one that is described in the rest of Genesis 1, which also fell and was replaced by the Genesis creation, and perhaps the fall of Lucifer that perhaps happened at the end of this or during this "previous" creation, it seems to be a more "respectable" way of incorporating the demands of modern Darwinian secular humanistic science into the Bible, without actually seeming to openly embrace evolution.

In some ways, this view, I think, is even more dangerous than the other two compromises, as it is very subtle, and seemingly attractive to many solid evangelicals.

All three viewpoints, have the problem, that the Creation, which God says, was "very good", has death and suffering before the fall of Adam and Eve, and therefore this makes an absolute nonsense of the fall, sin, and the Atonement.

Scandal: Hugh Ross interprets "day" as a 24hour day.

While doing some gardening, Hugh Ross was reading the instructions for Miracle Grow which read thusly, "...water lawn every other day." When reading this, Hugh Ross actually interpreted the word "day" as a 24 hour day, instead of correctly interpreting the word as a period of time/millions of years.

At publishing time, Hugh Ross read Genesis 1 & 2 and concluded that those days were long periods of time. 🤔

I did not read the article.

Most of us are already aware of this, but I will state it again.

Theistic evolution is simply a form of evolution. Some of the popes are on record for saying: “it is okay to teach evolution, but don’t leave God out of it”. It is a way of having it both ways. They can support our cultural approach to evolution and our cultural approach to a creator. So, they can be considered wise by both cultural camps.

It denies the fact that God is perfect and never errors or second guesses Himself. IOW, they believe that God used a trial and error approach. There is a concept called “Middle Knowledge” that is very complicated, but very interesting that touches on this subject.

Anyway, God created everything by fiat in 6 literal 24 hour days. Anyone who denies this can’t believe in the inerrancy of scripture for sure.
