Gunman opens fire, takes hostages at California veterans home
A gunman with a rifle opened fire and is holding at least three hostages at the largest veterans' home in the United States, causing a tense standoff as worried relatives wait for word on loved ones, according to police and media reports.
Police in SWAT gear locked down the sprawling property at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville, in the heart of Napa Valley's wine country. There were no reports of injuries or deaths.
