Allegations about 40 gay priests in Italy sent to Vatican
The archdiocese of Naples says it has sent the Vatican a 1,200-page dossier compiled by a male escort identifying 40 actively gay priests and seminarians in Italy.
In a statement on the diocesan website, Cardinal Cresenzio Sepe said none of the identified priests worked in Naples. But he said he decided to forward the file to the Vatican because "there remains the gravity of the cases for which those who have erred must pay the price, and be helped to repent for the harm done."
The dossier, containing WhatsApp chats and other evidence, was compiled by a self-proclaimed gay escort, Francesco Mangiacapra. He has told Italian media that he outed the priests because he couldn't stand their hypocrisy any longer....
Hi Wayfarer, no big deal, and I wasn't sure if the numbers had changed. I just knew that we have had that "honor" for quite some time. I did end up taking a look, and it seems that the bulk of them are concentrated heavily in the upper East coast for some reason, with 4-5 states having the most per capita distinction. I remember when all of this broke years ago, and the church was going broke from the massive settlements and attorneys fees. Get this...churches around here, and probably everywhere, had the nerve to pass around 2nd collection plates at every Mass for the attorneys fund. Sickening.
Hey Christopher000, Thank you for the correction, but one thing is for sure, “pedophile priests “, were sent to NM to get them out of way, and there are plenty of RC’s young people to molest. Point is, if your company pays out continuously due to raping children or grooming young men for older men’s sins, it ain’t San Francisco, it’s the Catholic Church.
Wayfarer Pilgrim from Lubbock,tx writes: Has more than 40 perpetrators. Each time the RC had a problem priest, they sent to New Mexico to be reformed? New Mexico has more Catholics per capita than anyplace in the US.
Unless the numbers have changed, that title has always belonged to RI and MA. A couple of other East coasters as well. NY, and Jersey maybe.
Except, Mr. Bear, practically every man I served with rejected the advances of his service-mate who would then be ejected from the Service. But I'm an old guy now and that was long ago. It seems that the RC Church has instead hidden the sexuality of their leadership rather than addressed it. Covering up sin by hiding it or through pentence is no replacement for repentance.
The all-male group of priests reminds me of the military world, where of course, Gomer Pyle functioned happily as a gay man (Jim Nabors). The fact that he later recorded some gospel music albums didn't stop him. Probably a lot of 'little old ladies' in the South put on his records to hear him sing.
Elizabeth Flock wrote: The notion that many Catholic priests are quietly gay is not new. In the 2000 book "The Changing Face of the Priesthood," Rev. Donald B. Cozzens suggested that the priesthood was increasingly becoming a gay profession. Cozzens estimated that as much as 58 percent of priests were gay, and that percentages were even higher for younger priests. His numbers matched previous estimates by sociologists who put the numbers of gay priests between 10 and 60 percent.
