Salon Pulls Article Bashing the Bible

Salon recently decided to remove a post from their website which claimed that the Bible cannot have come from God because it was so “badly written.” The post originally appeared at the website of psychologist and writer Valerie Tarico, where it can still be found.

The author began her post by stating that millions of evangelicals hold a dictation theory of inspiration and says that they believe each phrase to be so perfect that it needs linguistic analysis to understand its meaning. Then she remarks, “If that were the case, one would have to conclude that God is a terrible writer. Many passages in the Bible would get kicked back by any competent editor or writing professor, kicked back with a lot of red ink. Mixed messages, repetition, bad fact checking, awkward constructions, inconsistent voice, weak character development, boring tangents, contradictions, passages where nobody can tell what the ...

Many claim that the KJV uses archaic language. Is this objection justified? Think about this for a moment... every department of human learning uses language peculiar to that particular field. Biology, botany, geology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, music, medicine (illus. of Physiotherapy), law etc. all use strange sounding words, phrases & expressions which a novice would call archaic & hard to understand!
The English of the KJV is not the English of the early 17th Century. To be exact, it is not the type of English that was ever spoken anywhere.
It is Biblical English, which was not used on ordinary occasions even by the translators who produced the KJV. As H Wheeler Robinson (1940) pointed out, one need only compare the preface written by the translators with the text of their translation to feel the difference in style. And the observations of W A Irwin (1952) are to the same support.
The KJV, he reminds us, owes its merit, not to 17th Century English – which was very different – but to its faithful translation of the original.
Its style is that of the Hebrew and of the NT Greek. Even in their use of thee and thou the translators were not following 17th Century English usage but Biblical usage, & singular /plural differentiaton seen only in AV's English.

Dr. John Weldon wrote:
Generally speaking, KJV Only writers have no interest in being fair or impartial in their handling of the manuscript and textual data of Scripture. They also have little desire to accurately or honestly reflect the opinions of those with whom they disagree. Indeed, there is no effort made to appreciate the strengths of the positions of anyone who would speak a word against the inerrancy of the KJV.

The problem this raises is that sincere Christians who read KJV Only materials do not realize that proponents’ citation of historical facts is always skewed. However, the most consistent problem with KJV Only authors is their use of double standards. For example, the very arguments that would completely disprove the inspiration and inerrancy of the KJV itself are used with regularity against modern versions. Even though this does not cause KJVO promoters the slightest difficulty, can anyone maintain such an approach is either intellectually credible or fair to other Christians?…

It is such a kind gesture, Dr Tim. But really there is no need. We have plenty of vowels in the Welsh, only we call some of them consonants. So in the above example, "w" is a vowel actually, "ll" contains both consonants and vowels, "yn" contains a consonant and a vowel, and so on. You'd have to be here to experience it, really.

Eh bien?

Jer36:20And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king. 21So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe's chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. 22Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. 23And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. 24Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king,
nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

Thanks for concern, brethren. All is well, here. I must have missed the rumbles in the mumbles. We never seem to get much above a 5R here in Wales.

godly base their confidence on two truths: 1) “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Tim 3:16); and 2) an elementary rule of Scripture is that God has deliberately included seeming contradictions in His Word to “snare” the proud. He has “hidden” things from the “wise and prudent” and “revealed them to babes” (Luke 10:21), purposely choosing foolish things to confound the wise (1 Cor1:27).
If an ungodly man refuses to humble himself and obey the gospel, and instead desires to build a case against the Bible, God gives him enough material to build his own gallows.
..
God has turned the tables on proud, arro- gant, self-righteous man. When he proudly stands outside of the kingdom of God, and seeks to justify his sinfulness through evidence he thinks discredits the Bible, he doesn’t real- ize that God has simply lowered the door of life, so that only those who are prepared to exercise faith, and bow in humility may enter.
It is interesting to note that the seeming contradictions in the four Gospels attest to the fact that there was no corroboration between the writers.
Contradiction?
Ez12:13vs Jer 32:4?

Jer 39:6&7 laughs at blind fools who see "contradiction" thru blinded eyes.

Oh John...you are so blind, it's sad. How many rotten, sinful monsters go to church on a weekly basis? Do you honestly think that just because you decided somewhere along the line to start attending a church that approved of your lifestyle and decisions, that that proves your saved? Or is it because Pastor Steve and the elders decided to approve you as saved? Or was it because your Catholic priest has approved of you? Or is it because those at the casino like you? Or is it because you have a dirty mirror in your room and you are unable to see your true reflection? You are living a lie, John. You are either toying with everyone and you are someone entirely different than the person you portray online, or you are a diluted sinner, completely deceived into believing you are better than you are.
