Trump: It’s ‘disappointing’ Senate ‘blocked’ pro-life bill banning late-term abortions

President Trump called on the U.S. Senate to “reconsider” its rejection of an “important” ban on painful late-term abortions, urging, “we must defend those who cannot defend themselves.”

On Monday, the Senate voted to continue debate on the bill, effectively killing it by not allowing an actual vote on it. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has already passed the U.S. House and Trump has promised to sign it.

“When I addressed the 45th annual March for Life, I called on the Senate to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, important legislation that would protect our most vulnerable,” said Trump. “It is disappointing that despite support from a bipartisan majority of U.S. Senators, this bill was blocked from further consideration.” ...

David Brooks on Janet Yellen:
David Brooks wrote:
Well, it’s interesting to see a normal person as a public servant, who isn’t, like, screaming some manic red-vs.-blue fight.

And it’s a good reminder. People have their views. And she had a more of a liberal view than some of her predecessors. But being a Fed chairman, like a lot of politics, is about balance, trying to expand growth, expand labor markets, while reducing inflation.

And so it’s a problem. And you are trying to find the right balance for the moment. And whatever philosophy you go in, you’re presented with a specific problem and you’re trying to find the right balance. And you’re not driven by ideology. You’re driven by data, your best judgment.

And that’s the way a lot of government is. And even the Supreme Court works that way. People have red and blue, but they’re also just trying to do the job well. And that happens a lot in the bureaucracy. And we get a false view of politics based on what Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi are screaming each other. But, in reality, there are a lot of people like Janet Yellen.

Donald Trump’s first State of the Union was a deeply dangerous speech.

It was deeply dangerous because he finally followed in the footsteps of European leaders like Hungarian President Viktor Orban who have long ago learned to give an attractive look to authoritarian populism....

Under the cover of his soothing rhetoric about unity and bipartisanship, Trump called on Congress to give him unprecedented and unquestionably antidemocratic powers: “Tonight,” he said, “I call on the congress to empower every Cabinet secretary with the authority to reward good workers—and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the American people.”

The FBI is closing in on a cartel said to be smuggling illegal straws into California. The ringleader of this cartel is one Jim Lincoln, aka "El Payoso." This week's FBI Director said, "We're going to clean up this mess--right after we finish cleaning up the mess at our own headquarters."

In a statement released to Wisconsin media, Sensenbrenner called on Pocan to “reconsider the blatant stunt of inviting candidate Randy Bryce as his guest.”

Pocan was having none of it....

U.S. Representative Mark Pocan (WI-02) wrote:
Speaker Ryan is a nice guy, but it isn’t nice to write a bill that would kick 23 million people off their health care, or pass tax cuts that primarily benefit the top 1%, rather than his own constituents. Worse, Speaker Ryan has now collected $500,000 in campaign funds from the Koch brothers for passing tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy. The sad reality is that Speaker Ryan has abandoned his Wisconsin values by refusing to face his constituents in a truly open town hall, which is at the core of our jobs, and by not standing up to the President when necessary.

“Republicans have zero credibility to discuss the state of political discourse in America or what is disrespectful or out of bounds. I must’ve missed Mr. Sensenbrenner’s remarks when the President disparaged foreign countries as *******, called neo-Nazis and white supremacists ‘very fine people,’ bragged about sexually assaulting a woman, or even reportedly asked his lawyer to pay off an adult film star using campaign funds. Apparently tax cuts for GOP donors come at any cost.

Steve, here are some comments about what happened at the State of the Union speech. Note the first part of the article, but I couldn't help to include some of the other Senator Manchin's comments.
ABC News Radio wrote:
In response, [Sen.] Manchin said...

"I am shocked that after the vice president worked for almost a year in a divisive and partisan way to take healthcare away from almost 200,000 West Virginians, bankrupt our hospitals, and push tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and huge corporations that he would come to West Virginia and continue his partisan attacks," Manchin said in a statement.

"Last week, I worked in a bipartisan way with Senator Collins to end the shutdown, and last night President Trump called for unity and bipartisanship....I’m disappointed in his comments but will continue to work to make Washington work so West Virginia and our country work.”

I think all Democrats are alike when it comes to voting in Congress. They all voted against the tax reform bill. They all voted against the Supreme Court nominee Gorsuch. And so and so on.
Bottom Line: There is a difference between D and R. Not all politicians are alike. Let's give the R group a chance to run the country a while and see what happens.

I watched this last nite ( live , but on a Spanish News network, so maybe a bit delayed for their translation..
I heard some reaction - but even with this , it may
be the bad reaction was to " policy" not the grief stricken guests.
Worth the link to tie in the policy of protection Trump pushes,
vs the
" let a gaggle of gangsters gather" gag

That was the saddest part of his speech.

Shame on you Penned for engaging in the divisiveness tearing this country apart. It does not matter who disagrees as long as there is genuine effort to resolve conflict.

All Democrats are not equal. Are Republicans?

I know when the Democrats are in power, the Republicans do the same, but it's always disturbing when there's no unity, even on those things that are good for all sides, and the American people as a whole. Childish.
The entire time, Nancy Pelosi looked like she was trying to get food out of her teeth.
We have just watched Trump in action over here in the UK. Watching the Democrats sat nailed to their seats with cold shoulder and grumpy faces was quite amusing.
Isn't watching democracy at work really wonderful.

The left and the right will never come together. That's politics for you!!
But it is not leadership.

We have the same political muppet show over here. The left when referring to right always talks in the negative; - And of course vice versa.
Wonder why intelligent human beings vote for these soap opera's? Must be because TV is boring nowadays.

Interesting to note this news is not related to last night's State of the Union address.
It reminds me that perhaps SA could do us a big favor by creating a new page called, "Our News" to have news items that SA posters would like to see, like "KJV Declared to be Most Truthful Bible Translation" and "Catholics to be Deported from US to Italy"
This would abide with the 'your truth is your truth' and 'my truth is my truth' motto that many people today live by.
I noticed this in the reaction on one network about the speech, where they mentioned things not mentioned in the speech. That's like asking someone to comment on the New England Patriots victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they went on and on about what the Patriots did against the Miami Dolphins a month or so ago.
