Teenage screen addicts lose out on happiness, study shows

Psychologists in the US analysed data from the Monitoring the Future longitudinal study, a major survey looking at the lives of more than a million young people.

They found that playing computer games, using social media, texting and video chatting were all associated with less happiness.

Adolescents who invested more time in non-screen activities such as playing sport, reading newspapers and face-to-face social interaction were significantly happier.

Good idea Dr Tim! I know that would work to get rid of oppossums. Just make sure the tithe envelopes are filled with the Church's leftovers from the fellowship meal.🍝🍠🍢🍘🍱🍡🍥🍤

...after he [Servetus] had been recognized, I thought he should be detained. My friend Nicolas summoned him on a capital charge, offering himself as a security according to the lex talionis. On the following day he adduced against him forty written charges. He at first sought to evade them. Accordingly we were summoned. He impudently reviled me, just as if he regarded me as obnoxious to him. I answered him as he deserved... of the man’s effrontery I will say nothing; but such was his madness that he did not hesitate to say that devils possessed divinity; yea, that many gods were in individual devils, inasmuch as a deity had been substantially communicated to those equally with wood and stone. I hope that sentence of death will at least be passed on him; but I desired that the severity of the punishment(he wanted him beheaded instead of burned at the stake) be mitigated

No!!! Then by all means he SHOULD have been executed. By the way, our Baptist church had a dozen or more raccoons in the attic, but one of the deacons got rid of them. He gave them all tithe envelopes and we haven't seen them since.

The "capital crimes" of which Servitus was guilty were heresy and, above all, disagreeing with Calvin. The Bible says to reject heretics, not to murder them.

My Own 2 Cents, those names are from VeggieTales. I spelled Servitus wrong.

2 Cents,
Whether he burned him or not makes no difference to me, Servitus was a criminal guilty of capital crimes. While I never have heard of or read the book you recommend (and don't plan to), I will say that every denomination and sect has a dark side to it's history. The Bible's earthly authors do (as you well know). The mistakes that people make do not always discredit what they teach.

John Calvin did not burn Servitus (even though he would not have been wrong to do so). I find that Calvin was and is picked on for taking scripture seriously. Not trying to incite contention, just thought I'd bring that fact out for the sake of clarity.

Interesting that the source is British, yet the story comes from a US study. How come we don't see this news in a major US website?
A related story is about the Apple exec not wanting his kids to use social media.
I also used to say how terrible it was for the kids to waste time on it, but then I started noticing many 'seasoned citizens' enamored with it, so proud to show photos on their smartphones of their kids, and stopping many of their activities to take a phone call.

Calvinist Satire,

Will the Veggietales movie show Ulrich Zwingli drowning the Anabtist's and John Calvin burning Servitus??

True history should be shown in a untainted form.

Movies: Veggietales to launch "A veggietales reformation"

The famous show of your most memorable characters has decided to make a VeggieTales movie about the reformation. The movie will include famous church leaders such as Erasmus, Luther, Pope Leo, Calvin, and many more!

"The movie will depict what the reformation was about, and will include martyrs, and debates, and Martin Luther's famous attitude" said a representative for VeggieTales, he went on to say, "We're trying to push this film so that it can be used fora Sunday School class both for kids and adults"

Mr. Asparagus will be William Tyndale, Bob the tomato will be Martin Luther, Larry the Cucumber will be Erasmus, Mr. Nezzer will be Pope Leo, Archibald will be John Calvin.

At publishing time, Matt Slick pre-ordered the film to see if there was any theological discrepancies.

On another note, I think that the less time people spend calling names, debating endless topics with stupid arguments, on SA news articles, I SINCERELY BELIEVE THEY WILL BE A WHOLE LOT BETTER FOR IT!!!!

Total screen abstinence was not a recipe for happiness either, the study found.

The happiest teenagers were those who used digital media a little less than an hour a day.

After a daily hour of screen time, levels of unhappiness rose steadily.

Prof Twenge added: “The key to digital media use and happiness is limited use.

“Aim to spend no more than two hours a day on digital media, and try to increase the amount of time you spend seeing friends face-to-face and exercising – two activities reliably linked to greater happiness.”

Phi4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing;
but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise,
think on these things.

Prayer for care
peace- thot life --
