Former Pro-Choice Atheist Tells Evangelicals for Life How God Transformed Her

Trillia Newbell is a former atheist who considered children a "nuisance."

"What is funny is that I am here at a pro-life event talking about the love of children. It's crazy. Why? There was a time when I would have thought that children were a nuisance, a bother, expendable," she shared at the third annual Evangelicals for Life conference on Friday.

"There was a time when I thought that children didn't matter and all that mattered where those of us that were adults and teens walking around. I was pro-choice. But, I wasn't just pro-choice. I was pro-choice to an extreme. Go to the extreme and there I was. I also wasn't a Christian." ...

You are still a sinner?! Well, I thought Jesus absolved your sins at the cross? According to you, wouldn't that mean Jesus didn't accomplish His goal of dying for each of your acts of sin?
John, I am far more aware of falling short now than ever I was at my conversion. I think it is to do with getting closer to God; the closer you get, the more you feel the great gulf between God's righteousness and your own. In other words, God is inherently righteous, perfect and pure; I am a sinner saved by God's grace, still with indwelling sin as a believer (read John Owen's booklet on that) and with sin defined as "transgression of the law", I can truthfully say that although I am a saint, I am also a sinner.

However, because I also have the one requirement to enter heaven at the last day, namely, a perfect righteousness, given by imputation, God can view me "in him" (Jesus Christ) as being perfectly righteous, for which I praise the Lord.

So yes, Jesus has forgiven me every last sin; he has died specifically to save me personally, and all my sins are pardoned forever. God sees me as righteous in Christ. And I still do not expect to be perfect (in myself) in this life, but in the life to come.

As a matter of fact, I have! How do you know about that place?

It's the system God has decided on. Salvation is all His doing, but He allows us to choose or reject Him.

But you called me carnal, and now you've lied about me, so either you're a hypocrite, or you're using double standards.

But, you did not refute any of my points, you argued in an inconsistent way, if we boil it all down, you believe in an unjust God, a Jesus who failed His mission, a Holy Spirit that doesn't do His job. And you affirm an anthropology of man that he upsets God's plan, man wins, God loses.

Yes, you are. No, because I answered your questions and refuted your points. All while not calling you names!

I think, because I don't know their hearts like God does, that there are Calvinist who are saved in spite of it. However, I believe many are deceived into thinking they are saved because of the church they belong to and because their parents are saved under the "covenant" so they must be also. Does it really matter in the long run? I don't know, but I do try to be biblically accurate.

I have said the sinners prayer and have had others say it as well. It's just a tool some churches use and not a means of salvation. However, we are to repent and trust in God, confessing with our mouths that He is Lord. I see nothing wrong with that.

J4J; Thanks for the reply back, so someone like myself who holds to that, if God didn’t choose me First, by His Sovereign unconditional Election, of unmerited favor & love for His sheep, His people. That His ways aren’t our ways. As the Word is clear, that He wouldn’t ever, see me, choosing Him, down the corridors of time. With foreknowledge, that, I would choose Him first. So if Calvinism is false & promotes another God, through another Godhead then. Are ones, who hold to Reformed Theology, that if it weren’t by Him willing & quickening me to His saving foundation, Heaven would have none then; Jhn 1:12-13.

So these Christian saints aren’t saved & blood bought, from up above alone?

Do you ever encourage one to say the Sinners Prayer or ask Jesus into your heart?

does that make you carnal? 🤔

Let me give you a back story on my name. I changed it at the request of John UK, who may have forgot. He was like why be against something? It was seemed to offend some, so I figured why don't I be for something instead. Jesus seemed like the best option! However, I don't hide the fact that I am opposed to Calvinism or any false doctrine for that matter.

There is nothing wrong with saying salvation is all Jesus' doing. It is the gift of God. Can the clay tell the Potter, why have you made me like this? No. That also means we can't tell God how to save people. He saves according to His good pleasure. That being through the word and by faith. Not by magic spell or subconsciously!

Jhn-Against-Calvinism; No Reformed Christian, who cares about their walk of life, in knowing one day, they will take an account for their speech. In what they told others. No Born Again Christian, Who study’s Reformed Theology & cares about, accurately telling one about the Reformed Doctrines. Would ever tell one to Follow Calvin, as Calvinism was never, ever coined by Calvin. What’s so wrong with saying that ones utter dependency depends on Christ having merecy on them first. Unless you think that the God of the Bible isn’t fair to others, & sinners have sovereign reign to tell, Him. What He can & can’t do.

Spurgeon; If anyone should ask me what I mean by a Calvinist, I should reply, “He is one who says, Salvation is of the Lord.” I can’t find in Scripture any other doctrine than this. It’s the essence of the Bible.

Like 80% of the people who fall for Calvinism...

I have to agree that unless it's something taught from childhood, or within a church, as a new Christian, and having no prior knowledge, I think most would take an Arminianist view at first glance, while beginning with the New Testament gospels, etc.
I did...

Connor7...

I guess I can't talk to you about spiritual things because you are still carnal. Calling people names and stuff! Lol.

You're retelling history. I showed you where God loves the world, Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of the whole world (especially those who believe), the natural man couldn't be "enlightened" about the things of the Holy Spirit and they wouldn't automatically believe in Jesus if they did.

What holy thing are we talking about? Do you believe faith is a righteous work that merits salvation? There is nothing good coming from sinful people, but faith isn't a work. The Bible says so!

Like 80% of the people who fall for Calvinism were once Bible believers. They have to be coaxed into it. Maybe it appeals to the flesh. They belong to Calvin and they posses super secret knowledge that the rest of us obvious fools haven't figured out.

John, again you're making yourself look like a fool, and what plain teaching of scripture am I rejecting?

I've established the fact that Christ did not die for everyone, I supported that using scripture and logic, I showed that your position is not logically consistent and your understanding of human nature is not in line with scripture,

Faith and repentance are given by God to the sinner, i don't know how you can believe that something holy can come out of an unholy thing.

I don't think you really explained how the natural man can do that which is pleasing to God, that's remained unanswered in my opinion.

And your comment that people have been bamboozled into believing Calvinism...just doesn't make sense.

I think Dr. Tim is talking about evangelism, I think his point was, Have you evangelized recently? Whether we are Calvinist or non-Calvinist, we are to evangelize and try to support ministries if we can.

John Supposedly for Jesus, you have been arguing back and forth over this issue for days. During this time, have you personally told anyone, face-to-face, of their need for a Savior and how to receive Christ as that Savior?

I think this is an example of your theology shaping what you think the Bible means. The Holy Spirit wasn't yet given. That was stated while still in the Old Testament because Jesus had not yet accended to Heaven.

Your view has it that there could be no promise of the Holy Spirit because He was already indwelling believers. Pentecost was no big deal! Lol

The Holy Spirit wasn't given until Jesus was glorified. Therefore, all Old Testament saints were without the baptism of the Holy Spirit. That means they were still sinners. Do you believe you are sinless because God made you that way or because of Jesus dwelling in you?
Eh? I am not sinless, John.

Now this:

I put it to you that the OT saint was not a "natural man". Rather he was taught by the Holy Spirit, just as NT saints are. So they were not spiritually dead, but very much alive to God.

I also put it to you that all OT saints were born again of the Spirit. Why do I think that? Because without the new birth no man can see or enter the kingdom of God.

John 3:5 KJV
(5)  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus, although a master in Israel, ought to have known these things. Compare Ezekiel 18:31 and plenty of other passages which show that the Spirit of God indwelt OT saints, giving them a new heart and a new spirit.

Redemption and reconciliation is common to OT & NT.

There is a difference between the Holy Spirit coming upon an individual, which happened only a few times in the Old Testament, and being baptized with the Holy Spirit.
John, check out the original text of this convo:

1 Corinthians 2:12-14 KJV
(12)  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
(13)  Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
(14)  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

I put it to you that the OT saint was not a "natural man". Rather he was taught by the Holy Spirit, just as NT saints are. So they were not spiritually dead, but very much alive to God.

It is God makes alive those whom he chooses to.

Ephesians 2:5 KJV
(5)  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved).
