Chaplain’s Suspension Intensifies Denomination’s Gay Marriage Debate
The suspension of a popular evangelical university chaplain has highlighted tensions over same-sex marriage in a growing Protestant denomination that forbids it but also takes pride in its willingness to allow congregants to hold opinions contrary to church doctrine.
The Rev. Judy Peterson, ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church and pastor at its flagship North Park University in Chicago, presided at the wedding of two men in April. That act resulted in her suspension and then a petition drive calling on ECC leaders to place a moratorium on their guidelines forbidding clergy to officiate at same-sex weddings. The petition had more than 4,270 signatures as of Thursday (Jan. 11).
Members of the ECC — which has more than 850 churches in North America, with about 225,000 weekly attenders — have grappled with the issue much as have other Protestant denominations. Other ECC pastors also face...

This sentence is precisely where the sin and error of judgment in this church is observed. They illustrate their disobedience.
God has never used women in the pulpit. Never ever.
Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and *he shall rule over thee.*" = The authority of the man over the woman in this punishment of God comes from God - NOT from man or his human ability. Marriage is an institution of God. God does not place the woman in submission to the man in marriage and then put her in the pulpit above the congregation. 1Cor 14:34,35. 1Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve."
Note the point is not what women can or cannot do - It is obedience to God in His Word the Bible.
The Liberalist religion cannot obey the Bible and seeks to rewrite the Word of God. In society they preach, "Ditch the Bible keep the sin" This is the favorite motto of the Archbishop of Canterbury and his bishops. Thus they are no longer the Church of Christ.
Exactly bro. Frank. Now, feminism has driven the woman OUT OF the home, where God designed her to be. As a result, the family has broken down, kids being raised by technology, day care, and babysitters. That was not what God intended at all. Many say it takes two incomes to provide, but that is another lie.
Because of my sins, I am forced to work outside the home, which I regret. BUT, I remember Christ atoned for my sins, so I can go to work knowing I have peace with God and this all will soon be over

Thanks for your comment sister Ladybug!
Yes, and let me add that of course all Christians are called to be teachers of good.
Yes, older women should train the younger women. IMO the implication is they themselves have already walked the walk.

Nothing feminist at all in the above.
All of it revolves around a woman’s place in society. I also like the fact that your scripture didn't note feminine attributes. That is the general rule, not the exception.

I tend to ignore, but understand when others don’t, female and male attributes when I am pondering gender roles in society. An example is a woman may in fact be more qualified for a position than a male, but does that mean she should hold that position? Egalitarianism would say yes, but complementarianism would say no. A feminist will argue they are qualified to let’s say be president, but IMO, she shouldn’t hold a political office – period. Her qualifications/attributes have nothing to do with it. The below and most scriptures don’t refer to attributes at all. And it certainly applies to positions outside a church setting.
Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
A male might say since his wife can earn 3 times what he can earn, he will stay home with the kids and let his wife be the bread winner. I would say no simply because he is a male. Works both ways!
I remember Sarah Palin saying if anyone believes a woman should stay home with the kids when she has something to contribute to society, they were Neanderthals. That is a form of feminism that even born again believers accept.
I agree, Wayfarer Pilgrim. Women have no place in Christ's church as leaders of any kind other than younger women and children. I believe this to be true in politics as well. We women rule too much by feelings and sentiment and of course the monthly cycle also has a lot to do with that.
The ordination of women clergy will always bring about the acceptance of and legitimacy of deviant behavior. This denomination will probably grow in membership given the fact that so many people would have no problem with any of their viewpoints.
