""The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York announced that it paid out approximately $40 million to victims of sexual abuse by clergy.""
I wonder what difference the money will make to the victims?
This is a bit of a reversal on the old Roman catholic indulgences for purgatorial atonement's scam??? Bad sinners used to pay for their earthly sins, for purgatorial atonement - Today the bad RCC pays for its earthly ecclesiastical sinful practices.
Ye olde rhyme used to teach.... "As soon as a coin in the coffer rings / the soul from purgatory springs."
I wonder how the parishioners feel about their offerings being used to settle pedophile lawsuits instead of feeding the hungry and clothing the poor, etc., etc. I remember when this all began to come out and the lawsuits were flying, the churches around here were passing 2nd collection plates around for attorneys fees funds. Help us pay for the attorneys who are representing your child molesting priests. Interesting.

Paul Brooks wrote: Three Hudson Valley men abused by a Catholic priest decades ago will receive $250,000 each in compensation from the New York Archdiocese, according to their Kingston lawyer.... .... The money from the Archdiocese was authorized after a review of the claims the three men filed with the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program.
The Archdiocese has paid out more than $40 million under the program, it said in a report released Thursday....
