Kids who use their phones for at least three hours a day are much more likely to be suicidal. And recent research has found the teen suicide rate in the US now eclipses the homicide rate, with smartphones as the driving force.

But the writing about smartphone risk may have been on the wall for roughly a decade, according to educators Joe Clement and Matt Miles, coauthors of the recent book "Screen Schooled: Two Veteran Teachers Expose How Technology Overuse is Making Our Kids Dumber." ...

You can bet that these two Titans of Technology also raised their children Christianity free also.

Our Toxic Smartphone Addiction,” National Review, Oct. 12, 2017: “It’s damaging American mental health, and unless we do something about it things will only get worse. ... According to the latest data from Apple, smartphone users check in compulsively, averaging around 80 times a day. ... American adults eat, sleep, and breathe media, according to a recent eMarketer survey, consuming an average of twelve hours a day. ... If adults can’t handle smartphone technology, how could kids possibly stand a chance? Despite this, and despite the fact that it seems highly questionable to hand an immature young person what is essentially a very expensive portable Internet porn finder/social-media stalking system/mean girls text center, American kids are getting smartphones at earlier and earlier ages. The average age of acquisition, in fact, is currently ten years old.” For advice about the safe use of computers and smart phones in families see The Mobile Phone and the Christian Home and Church, available for free online viewing and as a free eBook download from

Not so quiet about this one --- so what about social media! What about their exposure to pornography? Or is that topic so passé in today's world that it's not even worth a mention in this story? Isn't that the bigger issue? The elephant in the middle of the room? Isn't that a huge driver of teen suicide, family destruction, impurity before marriage, impurity in marriage?

Sorry for the rant, but methinks that many of these studies determine what any thinking person already knows...too much technology is like too many carbohydrates as both cause long term negative impacts.

Funny, but no one I ever heard proclaimed prayer, worship, and Bible reading to cause any of these sorts of problems. Why can't we just stick to whatever things are lovely and of good report?
