At least 32 people were killed after a massive 8.1 magnitude earthquake, one of the biggest recorded in Mexico, struck off the country's southern coast late on Thursday, causing cracks in buildings and triggering a small tsunami, authorities said.
Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto said in a press conference that the quake was the biggest to strike the country in a hundred years, larger even than a huge temblor that struck in 1985, killing thousands.
YELLOWSTONE SUPERVOLCANO EARTHQUAKE SWARM NOW ONE OF BIGGEST ON RECORD, WITH OVER 2,300 TREMORS
An ongoing earthquake swarm at Yellowstone volcano is now one of the biggest ever recorded, with over 2,300 tremors since it began in June.
As of August 30, 2,357 earthquakes had been recorded. The most powerful in recent weeks was magnitude 3.3; it took place on August 21.
Still, the ongoing swarm is now one of the longest and largest on record. The largest swarm ever recorded was in October 1985; it lasted for three months and included more than 3,000 earthquakes. There was another large swarm in 2010, when more than 2,000 events were recorded over a month. -- Not yet But Supervolcano may burst and be seen as in -- Is28:20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. Youth in Asia wrote: probably not related to this earthquake, but I assume we will be seeing more earthquakes because of underground nuclear bomb testing
With coal mine collapse maybe the initial underground test site collapse can magnify effects?
" One issue is that seismic measurements of a blast aren't the same from one site to the next. For example, the South Korean government measured a magnitude 5.6 earthquake from the blast, while seismometers operated by Japan's Meteorological Agency detected a magnitude 6.1 earthquake.
That means Japan detected an earthquake three times more powerful than the one detected by South Korea, even though Japan is located hundreds of miles further away from the Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site. The US Geological Survey, meanwhile, detected a magnitude-6.3 earthquake - five times stronger than a magnitude-5.6 quake - from thousands of miles away."

Reading again "Quarto de despejo"- the favelas are even larger than when I read this back in the 60's - the poverty of areas his by disasters multiplies the pain - which pushed me to start Favelas ï by Janice E. Perlman
"not about places. In a sense it is not really about favelas. It is a book about the people who have shaped the places and spaces that are called favelasâsquatter settlements, shantytowns, or âpopular communities.â It is about four generations of people who have lived in favelas or whose families lived in favelasâabout people balancing on the narrow precipice between surviving and thriving. It is about their struggles, sufferings, and successes in their efforts to rise above a hostile environment. is is a chronicle of poor peopleâs attempts to claim their rights to personhoodâtheir fight to be perceived as genteâto be treated with respect and granted human Dignity"
These poor areas are also depicted in "Mama Heidi"- my wife & I were watching that again yesterday- Roland & Heidi Baker orphan mission in Mozambique- try watching the kids in the garbage dump there & stay dry eyed. ÂĄFLIES!
