Duke University removes Lee statue from chapel
Duke University removed a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from its campus chapel early Saturday morning. Lee’s likeness, which was vandalized earlier this week, stood among statues of nine other historical figures related to Methodism, Protestantism, and the American South at the entryway to Duke Chapel, an ecumenical place of worship in Durham, N.C., that has roots in the United Methodist Church. Other men depicted above or beside the entryway include Thomas Jefferson, John Wesley, George Whitefield, Martin Luther, John Wycliffe, and poet and musician Sidney Lanier, who served in the Confederate army and was assigned to a blockade-running ship along the North Carolina coast during the Civil War. In a letter to the campus community, Duke President Vincent Price said he consulted with faculty, staff, students, and alumni about his decision to remove Lee’s statue. “I took this course of action ...

the Civil War was fought to force southern states that had seceded back into the Union. Had it been fought to abolish slavery, then President Abraham Lincoln would have sent federal troops into Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, &Delaware, to “free” their slaves. Those were four Union states where slavery remained legal until the 13th Amendment was passed in 1865.

https://www.thenewamerican.com/culture/history/item/27276-reactions-to-kelly-calling-lee-an-honorable-man-are-instructive

Apparently, the fact that both Washington &Lee had once owned slaves makes them forever unworthy of honor. Washington freed his slaves, having come to oppose the institution. So did Lee, who had inherited some slaves from his father-in-law. In fact, Lee wrote to his wife before the Civil War, “I believe in this enlightened age, there are few who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil.”
Following the war, Lee displayed kindness not only to fellow Confederate veterans, but also Union veterans. He also took a leadership role in an effort to get his fellow southerners to respect the dignity of the former slaves. When other members of an Episcopal church in Richmond were hesitant to take communion with a black man in the church, Lee stepped forward to do so.

ESPN Pulls Football Announcer Named -- Robert Lee

ESPN pulled a veteran college football announcer from the season-opener between the University of Virginia and William & Mary because of the announcer’s name – Robert Lee.

Mockable goofballs-Robert Lee’s only offense was that his parents named him Robert Lee.

ESPN apparently thought Lee’s name might offend some viewers because of similarities to Civil War General Robert E. Lee.

OutkicktheCoverage.com 1st to note:-Mr. Lee is in fact – Asian.

Robert Lee is not a racist or a neo-Nazi or a member of Antifa and he had absolutely nothing to do with the violent protests in Charlottesville.

“In that moment it felt right to all parties,” ESPN said. “It’s a shame that this is even a topic of conversation and we regret that who calls play-by-play for a football game has become an issue.”

Well, it’s only an issue because the politically-correct pinheads at ESPN blew the call – again.

Should we ban the stinkin' Lincoln rose as it gives a whiff of racism?
Ban it from Rose parade?

1. That's so cute, Jim.

2. From the link:
"Lee himself was conflicted about the core issues of his day. He was a slave owner who some say was cruel and a general who fought to preserve the institution."

2. To be accurate, which I know can be troublesome, it was Lee's wife inherited slaves when her father died.

As for the "some say was cruel" aspect, this is hearsay, without any named source, and not in keeping with the character of Lee. But some say false things to cause doubt. There is an agenda, you know, and revisionism is priority.

"I did believe at the time that [war] was an unnecessary condition of affairs and might have been avoided, if forbearance and wisdom had been practiced on both sides."

Was Abraham Lincoln a Christian? - Emancipator or Centralizer

Kevin Swanson's show indicates why Lincoln, a man with unDisputed racist statements ( see 3comments on Kevin's show for links) -& supporter of genocidal Indian massacres - will probably keep his memorial next to Dawkin's new statue.

Stinkin' Lincoln may have been the most significant American leader in the 19th century. But Abraham Lincoln was an enigma. Was he a Christian? Was Lincoln more committed to the dignity of the African American citizen, or the integrity of the federal union? Kevin Swanson interviews researcher and civil war author, John Dwyer on these important historical questions, in light of the new Lincoln movie produced by Steven Spielberg.

It would be better to leave the MLK streets( commy adulterer), Jackson cities(Trail of Tears) , Washington monument etc alone.
&teach flaws of leaders Rm3
it is the hypocrisy that leads to mocking " Dawkins memorial" proposals- if some great flawed leaders should be banned - Mt 7 will tear down log cabins in the eyes of silly hypocrites.

BREAKING FAKE NEWS:

Atheist leftist tears down George Washington Statute, replaces it with Richard Dawkins Statue to symbolize that America doesn't need God to be good, yet not only that, reports say that it also symbolizes freedom of religion without hatred or bigotry, and free discussion in the scientific world (except for Creation)

At publishing time, they were going to tear down all statutes of the founding fathers who believed in God, because they want to create an atmosphere of tolerance.

Gentlemen: I would suggest you read the short article, ]]https://tinyurl.com/y8dlkyjt (Robert E. Lee opposed Confederate monuments) Robert E. Lee opposed these obvious symbols of white supremacy, in fact that's all these symbols represent. They just divide the country.

danfinrud, you used the wrong example, you should have used the Pantheon in Rome which was turned from one pagan temple into another pagan temple, in this case a Romish Church, q.v., ]]Pantheon -- Catholic modifications, so someways history does get changed though in this case not into anything better, I would suggest you read the article, ]]https://tinyurl.com/ybwda238 (America's 'Confederate infrastructure:' Too big to hide, move or raze).

The symbols of White Racism aren't going to removed anytime soon, if ever.

Well, they will no doubt be removed by Christ when he returns, though.

WHen it comes to this action I would like people to think about how removing a statue of a historical figure really changes the past. The Rome Colosseum was used to kill many people including Christians. If the same standards the left has for statues would be enforced would not all Historical places be forced to be destroyed. How many paintings would have to be burned because one group or another may not like what is shown. OR claim it affects them.
People need to grow up and not act like ISIS terrorists. Because that is what ISIS and the Taliban did destroy Historical sites. Because they did not like the idea that those other ideas should be allowed in the areas they control.
Good points Danfinrud.

The ISIS connection is especially valid and efficacious today and absolutely correct. Demonstrates the mind of these Lefty Liberals and their belligerent rent a crowd supporters.

Why is this story so important to you Jim L.? Why do you care? Why do you continue to rant against Lee?

BTW, these are rhetorical questions, I already know the answers. Keep trashing America's history, whether it be good or bad. It's all part of the liberal left agenda, erasing the past.

John Y., neither you nor president Trump have much to worry about when it comes to removing Civil War memorials. We don't need to cut the KKK slack, Mike.

I think this is one of the best articles to point out the endurance Southern Civil War memorials. As it title shows, ]]https://tinyurl.com/ybwda238 (America's 'Confederate infrastructure:' Too big to hide, move or raze)

Rick Hampson wrote:
Although a few communities are removing a few statues, the nation’s Confederate memorial infrastructure — estates, plantations, battlefields, graveyards, birthplaces, shrines and at least two huge obelisks — is too vast and diverse to be moved, hidden or destroyed.

The sites range from small, privately owned house museums honoring obscure soldiers to the massive bas-reliefs carved in the side of Stone Mountain, Ga., that historian Fitzhugh Brundage calls “a billboard to white nationalism.’’

It's good that the city council of Charlottesville is mourning the results of what the city council created, though the distraction-from-themselves act of covering up statues is rather childish. Wouldn't it be nice if revisionists and other leftists wanted to grow up, quit applying the accepted standards of today to the different world of the past? Remember these are among the same ones who say there are no absolute truths by which we can judge. Maybe we need cut them some slack, though, since thinking is not their strong point.

The Daily Progress reports the city council voted unanimously early Tuesday to shroud the statues in fabric to represent the city's mourning of Heather Heyer. The 32-year-old woman was killed Saturday when a car rammed into a group of people protesting a white nationalist rally in the city.

The rally was sparked by the city's decision to remove a statue of Lee.

Ben't deceived & many on College Campus are, only new spiritual hearts of flesh will exchange out. The idol producing factory of the fallen spiritual heart of flesh, may Christ remove the veil off many. As He raises up more laborers to go into the fields of harvest. Proclaiming why their is no King but Christ Alone amen.

Acts 17:30-31 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

All history is lopsided and semi fictional. I challenge anyone to produce a history written in english, of N America which contains full and truthful accounts of the Spanish impact on current US territory in the west, being thst they were there long before english speakers.

History, generally, is written by the victors, who will always arrange the facts to make themselves look better and their vanquished look worse.

What is written, can be accurate and misleading simultaneously.

Did the cops dig up an old rusted knife in the accused persons back yard, and framed pictures of their trip to Wahington DC
-or-
discover a burried weapon cache and pictures of many high profile buildings that are known terrorist targets.
Both.

Christopher000 from Rhode Island wrote that "a lot of the nonsense were witnessing today is born out of utter ignorance to the facts themselves." You are absolutely right, Mr.Triple Ought--and who do you suppose benefits from this ignorance? The godless, freedom-hating, hedonistic liberals, of course. The only students who now study American history are those enrolled in Christian schools; public schools present only lopsided, fictional accounts of the past. They've removed historical accuracy from textbooks, and now they are trying to remove it from every public arena. None of this is being done in the name of justice or out of a desire to correct past wrongs. No, it is all about CONTROL. For decades American Christians have decided they don't want to act like Christians, and now we are shocked that the world wants to act like the world. Well duh!

But no cause can ultimately succeed, whose leaders openly disregard the rights of the Church, and trample upon the persons of innocent and helpless men, women, and children, whose only fault is that they cannot agree with them in devastating homes and subverting their government.

what history reveals..
There are still soldiers who will serve a tyrant willingly as in this case who will
"intend to make them preach and pray my way. We'll see which has the longest sword, their master, or ours!"

The newspaper that published a statement of the facts was destroyed and its office burned. The type of a religious journal, the Southern Churchman, was burned, and the enormities that ensured exceeded those perpetrated upon peaceable Christian communities by the Mohammedans.
