When the sun goes dark Aug. 21 during a total solar eclipse, churches from Oregon to South Carolina will use the event as an opportunity to illumine their communities with the Gospel.
The first total eclipse visible from the U.S. since 1979, this month's cosmic event will occur when the moon passes between the sun and the earth and blocks the sun, according to NASA's total eclipse website. Everyone in the contiguous U.S. will be able to see at least a partial eclipse. But the 70-mile-wide "path of totality," in which a total eclipse will be visible, will pass through 14 states.
Millions are expected to gather in those states to view the eclipse, and churches in the path of totality are planning an array of outreach events....
Psalms 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
Psalms 148:3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Genesis 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
-- Song of Solomon 6:10 Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?
Job 31:26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;
-- Jer 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: -- Joel 3:15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken -- Lots of opportunity to point out&reflect the light of the Lord as the moon reflects sunlight- the signs of the times as men look up.

But what about those inevitable selfies with the sun? Advice for the most photographed event of the year isnāt so clear.
NASA itself debates whether smartphone photos of the eclipse can damage the phoneās camera....
Ron and Linda Matson are taking four of their grandchildren to Nebraska on Aug. 21 to watch the solar eclipse. Advice varies on whether taking cell phone photos of the event will harm your device. Travis Heying The Wichita Eagle
Had trouble with Roman Catholics- not the true church - Kevin Bolings show above a great example of true scientific wonder at design- "Capture the widespread interest in the total solar eclipse and direct attention to a Biblical view of astronomy, the authority of God's Word, and ultimately to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Boling gives out excellent witnessing booklet, What Does the Bible Say about Astronomy. -- The guest on the show isn't the only one pointing out intricate design allows eclipse to be seen-
the axis of earth alignment precludes melting all earth waters - kinda convenient not to be underwater-
-many astounding fine tuning particulars of the solar system and of the Earth make The GOLDILOCKS Effect- "just right" planet. one of the simplest enables this total solar eclipse, named by Boling's guest the Sun is 400 times larger than the Moon and it is 400 times further away
leading fathers of the physical sciences, both before &after Darwin, rejected atheistic origins, like Copernicus, Bacon, Kepler, Galileo, Pascal, Boyle, Newton, Cuvier, Dalton before, and after Darwin including Faraday, Pasteur, Joule, Kelvin, Lister, Carver- Atheists can't claim Galileo.
I wonder at the relevance of this eclipse to spurring Gospel witness? It's an eclipse. Making it an event with spiritual meaning detracts from the truth of witness. If they will not see him in the daily things, which have been shown to them per Romans 1, he won't be seen just because the moon infrequently passes between us and the sun.
I wonder if these special presentations will include someone dressed up as Galileo so the church can excommunicate him again! Again, I don't think anyone who does not believe in the Bible as the Word of God will attend any of these events, unless to mock them.

Try watching the skies with the many creationist astronomers around- a visit to Creation Evidence Museum can focus on their astronomy specialists.
Planetarium showings require separate timed tickets (purchased on site) I enjoy "The Heavens Declare "- widely available in cable streaming - well worth the price for DvD set

Explore the different views and history about the origin of the universe and why we are here. The Heavens Declare is a DVD series exploring the scientific evidence which supports the Biblical worldview for the formation of the universe
brilliant Christian astronomers contrast with religious goofballs in Catholicism who published a 2011 corrupt " bible" that posits an eclipse during Passover's full moon
NAB-RE darkness Lk23:45a"45because of an eclipse of the sun.."
Of course, the secular folk will see the hoopla that these Christians are making of the eclipse, and compare them to the Middle Age folk who had very little scientific knowledge. I can already see a TV reporter standing in front of one of the churches, saying, "Yes, here's another group that is making hay out of the coming eclipse.."
I do remember the late D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida preaching a sermon on the "Gospel in the Stars" Other than that, I have not seen any astronomers speaking of the wonders of God.

non-biblical evidence of the day of darkness mentioned at Christ's death?Ā "Circa AD 52, Thallus wrote history.Ā In speaking of Jesusā crucifixion &the darkness that covered the land during this event, Africanus quotes him:" 'On the whole world there pressed a most fearful darkness; and the rocks were rent by an earthquake, and many places in Judea and other districts were thrown down. Ā This darkness Thallus, in the third book of his History, calls, as appears to me without reason, an eclipse of the sun.'" - Evidence of Design- axis of the Sunās rotation being seven degrees out of alignment with the ecliptic plane of the planets' orbits, & the Sun missing nearly 100% of the spin from lying "condensed from alleged swirling gas" myth ycloud, &the planets have nearly 100 times too much spin energy, called angular momentum.

Every time that I have seen astronomy mentioned, it is not within the context of praising God or believing on his son Jesus Christ for salvation. No, it is always in search of something that proves that there is no God.
Luke23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. You save me the effort of reading the article, thanks! This will be something I will be outdoors watching since Lincoln is in the path of total solar eclipse. A good source of information from a city I don't believe is in line for the totality of the eclipse, Rapid City SD., http://www.kotatv.com/eclipse/. They'll be able to experience a partial eclipse as well most of the country for that matter.
Seeing God's handiwork will be enough for me, I would have to go to party about it.
