‘Bible verse won’t be removed’, US mayor tells atheists
After receiving a complaint letter from a prominent atheist group, the mayor of a Tennessee county says he has no plans to remove a Bible verse inscription from his county’s courthouse and hopes instead to add an additional verse to the building’s walls.
On June 30, attorney Rebecca Markert with the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) mailed a letter to Dan Hughes, mayor of Henderson County in Tennessee. She said that a “concerned local resident” told FFRF about a biblical inscription on the cornerstone of the county courthouse.
“We understand that a Bible verse is etched on the wall of the Henderson County Courthouse in Lexington, Tennessee,” Markert wrote. “The verse reads, ‘Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: Mercy and truth shall go before thy face. Psalms 89:14.’”...
However, Danny Sorrell, pastor of Campbell Street Church of Christ in Jackson, Tennessee, said biblical principles played an important role in the founding of the U.S., so biblical inscriptions on government buildings are constitutional.
“Our country was founded on a Christian heritage, and there’s so much that we can gain from and learn from our past and learn from God’s word,” Sorrell told WBBJ.
“Having a Bible verse on the courthouse, that’s not imposing anyone’s religion on anyone else,” he added. “It’s just part of the history of our country"
Local residents interviewed by WBBJ said they were glad their mayor didn’t capitulate to the atheist group’s demands.
“It ought to stay right there,” said Henderson County resident John Huffman. “If somebody else wants something different, they’ll chisel it on there. There’s plenty of squares.”
“It’s a big Bible Belt around here, and you know, if they don’t like it, they don’t have to read it,” Henderson County resident Adam Pinte opined.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD: and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”
"Our community is based on the belief of a true and living God,” he wrote.

Mikey Wienstien is a bully. His organization is wealthy by these shake down schemes. He is no different than the mob, the klan or the southern poverty law association. This is what happens when faith is not supported and when the federal judiciary does nothing to support the religious rights of individuals or people groups or historical community expression in art, memorials or architecture. Good for that Mayor for standing up against those atheists. There really are no atheists as they know that God exists but they want to be their own gods and do not want to be under God's authority.

Arguing that the inscription violates the U.S. Constitution’s Establishment Clause, Markert said the verse on the courthouse is “inappropriate” because “it conveys government support for religion.”
Amazing how truly ignorant of the law of the land an attorney can be.
I think if I were that mayor, I might have to tell the attorney that God isn't a religion, Tennessee isn't Wisconsin, and atheist attempts at stifling freedom are not welcome.
What's always amazing to me is how these groups exist for the sole purpose of erasing the Christian God from this nation and even the minds of today's youth. Genocide, in a manner of speaking. This isn't simple disbelief...it's hatred, plain and simple, and woe to them for deliberately and systematically attempting to make God irrelevant and non-existent. Imagine the time and effort they put into it as they spend their entire adult lives fkfhting against anything and everything God. I've never heard of them going against Islam, Buddism, Mormonism, or even Satanism being introduced into the public school system, only biblical Christianity.

Of course, the law-breakers will not like this text of scripture, because it reveals God's justice and his just judgment. If only they could see it, it also reveals his willingness to be merciful through the truth.

If anyone wants to be "free from religion" then they are free to sin themselves into hell, which is foolishness. Must be something to do with their sinful nature.

Good on this mayor. I hope that he sticks to his resolution, adds the extra verse, and that the whole council, local churches and community all support him. It's time that the US people in local villages, towns, cities and communities stood up to these professional atheist troublemakers and their fancy well paid lawyers, and refused to give in to their threats.
