Conservative Anglican Leaders Ready for 'Nuclear Option' as COE Softens on Homosexuality
Conservative African and Asian Anglican church leaders are reportedly ready to put forth their own bishop in the Church of England in defiance of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who they believe is softening on gay marriage.
According to The Mail, conservative bishops believe the CofE is becoming too liberal on the subject of homosexuality, and are threatening to take the "nuclear option" when it comes to electing their own bishop in the U.K.
The article cited "insiders" who revealed that the matter will be decided at a meeting in Africa, which would represent a direct challenge to Welby's authority as nominal head of Anglicans worldwide.
While Welby has maintained that he continues to back the traditional definition of marriage, which is between one man and one woman, he has made several statements suggesting support for gay couples in recent years....
Just as a side note, and to each his/her own, so no judgement, I've always been careful not to call anyone a fool. I've always expanded the verse for myself to mean, don't call anyone a fool, because I can easily be called a fool by others for my own things, past and present. Again, that's just me.
The difficulty is that if an evangelical Anglican is put forward for any bishopric in the Church of England, but most particularly for the Archbishopric of Canterbury, he has to "tone it down", basically to compromise.
My feeling is that the mainstream of Anglican Evangelicals will unfortunately grit their teeth, and "go with the flow", a small minority will leave Anglicanism altogether and join the Free Churches, (the Evangelical ones that is), and an even smaller minority, will have to leave their parish churches, hire a hall, and put themselves, with their vicar or rector, under an African, Asian or South American Evangelical Anglican bishop!!
""in defiance of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who they believe is softening on gay marriage.""
Welby's recent statement which he made after the CofE Synod basically called on the church to ditch the Bible and keep the sin.
Welby said:- "To deal with that disagreement, to find ways forward, we need a radical new Christian inclusion in the Church. This must be founded in scripture, in reason, in tradition, in theology;"
"found in Scripture"???? - Can he not read Scripture? Or does Liberalism blind the bishops of the CofE??
But then he goes on to align Scripture with - "reason" and "tradition". - Now as we have seen in the Roman Catholics heresy and tradition club, when man's reason and traditions are brought to the point of being as "biblical" as Scripture - Then blasphemy and idolatry and heresy take over.
The CofE has a problem with the Word of God and that problem is Liberalism which obscures the doctrines of truth. In other words they cannot perceive the truth - in Scripture.
