Trump vs The Catholic Church

Yesterday, the president of the US Catholic Bishops' conference, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston Cardinal Daniel Nicholas DiNardo, issued a powerfully worded statement condemning Trump's policies on the border wall with Mexico and halting migration and asylum from countries including Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya.

Doubtless encouraged by the famous condemnation by Pope Francis of the wall as "not Christian", the Cardinal said the it will put "lives in needless danger" and talked of the "pain, fear and heartache" of those who have come to the US.

"Today President Donald Trump made several announcements which deeply concern me," began Cardinal DiNardo. "...We have witnessed the pain, fear and heartache of people who have come to us, who have to live among us in the shadows of society. Many have suffered exploitation in the workplace, lived under the constant threat of ...

Hey Frank, thanks for the concern, really. I should have picked up on what you were doing...not my finest moment...ha-ha.
My first thought was, Wow! Frank really means business. ☺

Brother Frank and Sister MS,

Bless you both for your words of encouragement. My prayer is that God will open the understanding of sc and allow her to see clearly.

Since she refused to directly answer my question, I can only assume she was referencing to some who post here. With that said, she has no basis for such accusations.

I disagree Chris. No one including me would ever think negative about your reasoning. The question I asked could have just as easily been a serious question. Questions like that do come up on this forum. I started to put at the end that I was using sarcasm, but my wife was bugging me to get up and go to dinner.

Anyway, I apologize for using sarcasm and not making that clear. I don't appreciate it when others do that because how are we to know for sure? You were very kind to want to address the concerns as you saw them.

I was just trying to show how silly SC gets at times when she does what she does. You are correct; that is the world we "temporarily" live in! And when I venture outside or go out to eat or go shopping I am not sinning.

Thanks!

Oh boy...do I feel like an idiot. 😁
I thought it was a little odd, considering in today's world we cant really go anywhere without seeing something we don't care for, etc, but rolled with it anyway. I guess MS got it and I'm the SA fool of the day...ha-ha. Nice job, Frank.
Anyway, doing well, and I'm glad you are as well.

Hey Chris! It was meant to be sarcasm for anyone, but MS already answered it to my satisfaction. I rarely use sarcasm, but did this time.

How are you doing?

Thanks for you kind comment. You have been a blessing to me over the years as well.
I agree with you about sister Ladybug. She and I have gotten to know each other over time and she has truly been a blessing to me.
I have real dilemma. All of the restaurants around me serve beer, wine and most of them whiskey and many of the patrons are dressed immodestly. The same goes for the places that we do our shopping at. All of them serve beer and wine.
Should I continue to eat out and do grocery shopping at these stores? If I give them my money, then am I not promoting their behavior at least to some degree?
Perhaps I should stand outside with a picket sign instead of giving my money to these evil people?
Solution: Shop on-line...Order take out.
You and Mrs.Frank could always go live in a cloistered community.

Hope that helps.

Brother Frank,
Just wanted to stop by and let you know what a blessing and encouragement to many of us YOU have been over the years on this forum.

Sister ladybug,
I concur with brother Frank in regard to your tenacity with some who post here, what a bunch of religious rubbish that some try to shove down folks throats here on a daily basis.Truly pathetic.

Blessings to you both.

Sister Ladybug,

You and I both agree that there are several posters on this forum that are simply trolls. I’m sure our lists would be pretty much the same.

You and I also agree that a troll's primary purpose is to cause discord and strife. All of them do it by occasionally being reasonable and on topic which simply lures in the unsuspecting. That then gives the troll an opportunity to be divisive which was their primary purpose.

I want to truly thank you for engaging these folks! They should never be allowed to fool the occasional reader who might stop by.

sc,
you are deliberately avoiding the question - who are you referring to when stating "Those who use liberty to fulfill their flesh and call themselves Christian, are foolish in their ways.
How close to the edge may one get before slipping? The ground underneath them is unstable. How unwise to suppose that we may set our own "limits".

You need to take note, no one here has ever stated they condone drunkenness, nor do they condone immorality- either dress or behavior. So, who are you directing your accusations towards? Are you making a generalization? If so, that seems pointless since no one here condones either drunkenness or immorality.
Perhaps you are the one who has a problem comprehending?
As I stated, I will not give you a chance to spew out your rhetoric about wine. Your opinions aren't gospel truth.

As for the Son setting us free, yes He does. Why then are you still bound by legalism, 'don't taste, don't touch' etc?

Which part of "...Those who use liberty to fulfill their flesh and call themselves Christian, are foolish in their ways.

Jesus never drank alcohol. He is our High Priest. The buzz that alcohol gives is a sorry alternative to the joy found in His Spirit through the new covenant.
Those who love Him don't find His commandments burdensome.
Whom the Son sets free,is free indeed."

-is a problem for you Ladybug and U S?

U S- "democrat supporter",not democrat.
and signing an anti-porn measure after publicly posing in front of his signed porn magazine...
feel better now?

Christians who compromise may still be saved. They just cease to be a light for God and miss out on an intimacy with Him.
A legalist would say that one is saved because of what they do/don't do.
If we love God,we obey Him (in deed and thought)

This is why I identify you as a legalist sc. You state your opinion as if it were fact. We've been over and over and over the issue of wine, Christ drinking wine, etc. I have no desire to give you a platform to re-hash that endless debate.

I would ask, who are you referring to in stating those using liberty to fulfill their flesh and calling themselves Christian? Who is that statement pinpointed to? Who is the 'we' that sets 'our' own limits?
Who are you accusing sc? Name names- the burden of proof is on you. If you have no evidence, then you need to cease accusing.

You were the one who brought up his anti porn measures. I was just showing you the hypocrisy.
sc, please allow me to help you out so that you don't go against your advice.

I said

Maybe sc, like Jim from Lincoln, is a democrat supporter and therefore sees the need to remind all of Trumps shortcomings.

there is nothing there that states that anyone who is not a Trump fan must be a democrat, you are purposefully twisting and misjudging my statement.

I said

Trump has already signed an anti-porn measure

there is nothing there about Trump being anti-porn, just that he signed an order about restricting its access to children. Again, you are purposefully twisting and misjudging my statement

Please follow your own advise so you don't practice the hypocrisy you decry.

Also you are falsely and slanderously accusing ladybug and others of trying to "get as close to the edge as possible" and insisting that she and others doesn't "hold to God's standards." Not holding to YOUR standards is NOT the same as not holding to God's standards, that has been proven time and time again.

sc,

As I have stated before, I have never condoned drunkenness or immoral dress/behavior. You assume everyone here is for these things and you rail against us/them.

I adhere to the word of God, but, unlike you, I do not hold to legalism.

Division is caused when folks add to or take from His word, inputting man's methods as though they were 'gospel truth'.

Lb,what/Who we hold dear will cause division as will what we choose to feed on/drink.
You do have the poor habit of misjudging at times.
...as does U S,who thinks that anyone who isn't a trump fan must be a democrat.
U S,I am not wrestling with Trump just because I support my arguments with facts...one who is anti porn will be anti porn across the board. You were the one who brought up his anti porn measures. I was just showing you the hypocrisy.

Hi MS, my father's side is 2nd generation Northern Ireland, Belfast/Newtownabbey areas, and my mom, the same, but came over from Italy. Irish/Italian...quite the combo. ☺
Anyway, thanks for the information. I don't know why, but I assumed you have been saved most of your life, not knowing that you (both) only broke free 16yrs ago. The older we get, the more stubborn and set in our ways we become, so change doesn't come easy, especially when there's pressure within a family, we don't want to rock the boat, and more so when the family is Catholic, etc. When God is able to reach anyone so immersed in whatever, later in life, I always see it as being miraculous, especially after being so indoctrinated for so long.

sc - you put forth this opinion - "And,lbug, why are you even weighing in on the matter? You have told us time and time again that we need to concern ourselves with more important matters."

I am quite certain my definition of 'important matters' is different than yours.
