Baptist Church in DC Hires 'Married' Lesbians to Lead Flock

Calvary Baptist Church, a progressive Baptist landmark in the heart of downtown Washington, has named a gay couple as co-pastors.

Sally Sarratt and Maria Swearingen were presented to the congregation during worship services Sunday (Jan. 8) and are set to begin their new jobs on Feb. 26.

A spokeswoman for the congregation said she didn’t know whether a gay couple leading a church was a first for Baptists.

“We look for the best people in the world and that’s who they were,” said Carol Blythe. “We’re very excited.” ...

SC no one but you brought up sexually charged clothing, we were talking about men's casual dress when you got involved, it seems like the conversations when you are involved always turns to sexually inappropriate clothing. Unless I'm understanding you wrong and you are saying that men's casual dress leads to judgement? I have no problem speaking out about what the Bible speaks out about. You have told me they didn't drink wine with alcohol in the Bible and that we shouldnt baptize anyone, where is casual dress addressed in the scriptures, we can't just distort the word of God to push our agendas.

I don't get my news from entertainment sites...am I wrong,U S, has entertainment attire changed? The rockettes will cover their bodies for the address? Cheerleaders stopped wearing apparel like underwear?etc.
I know that many Christians watch pro football and I know that they must know how cheerleaders dress. They used to line up as the players would come out on the field. They don't do that any more?
The nfl has decided that they are unnecessary,I suppose?
My experience is not the standard...but does appear to be the norm for the nation as a whole. CCM wouldn't be so popular if Christians had not compromised. Most Christian radio stations play the junk and these artists,many of them,are pro-sodomy.
You don't know this? Even this site has an article about Carrie Underwood.
Only sexual deviants...indeed...so why do you let your girls so dress or have no problem with others who do?
There are sexual deviants everywhere.Protect your children.Don't allow them to be baring their bodies.

1. May I suggest you read the apostle Paul's testimony in Romans 7. Surely you don't think he didn't speak against sin. It is you who is insinuating one cannot speak out against sin unless we have "no beams."

I converse with brothers and sisters in Christ daily, what's on tv is not a part of discussions. No one brought up skimpy attire or lesbians etc... we were talking about casual wear. When you can't give scripture to support your views such as on casual attire this is what the subject was, going down a whole bunch of 'rabbit trails' on other subjects that are clearly spoken against by scripture is not the point at hand.

I know what goes on because I run across other Christians who talk about what they do and what they watch. I have been in many churches that love to talk more about football and television than the word of God. I used to watch television and know what used to be on it and based on how others talk and news articles and the like,it's not difficult to figure out the landscape of this nation and the church.Of course,"christian" "artists" and celebrities like those in the duck show are not very discreet either.Pretty simple to figure it out. One can figure that the trash may stink based on what is placed in the garbage dump without actually being there.
Grace is not cheap. The more one loves God,the more they will abhor sin.
It's not cute that many Christians will allow their daughters to dress immodestly even for sports nor is it cute that boys are encouraged to be sport fanatics and be up to speed on the latest entertainment/celebrity.
This nation is under judgment for allowing its women to be objectified,its babies to be murdered and its men to be self seeking.

By the way, I see people everyday I go out who would be in violation of my church dress code. According to your thinking that puts me in violation of it and means I have a double standard.

We are what we are by the grace of God, no self applause We have shown the attitude you say permeates the church is not one found here in the many sermons on this site. Thus we advise against making your broad brush statements.

sc, I belong to a church full of undeserving, unworthy, hell bound sinners that have been saved by the grace of God. We all sadly realize that we sin and fall short of the glory of God on a daily basis. We know that if God would mark iniquity none of us would stand but there is forgiveness with Him that He should be feared. We rejoice in His mercies and strive to pursue holiness and loathe the times we fall. Even Paul said Christ Jesus came to save sinners of whom he was chief (not a past tense statement when he made it). He realized he had not already attained but shared the fight between the flesh and the spirit that we all face. We, through the Spirit, mortify our members here and desire to put on the Lord Jesus and make no provision for the flesh. We walk, by His grace and for His glory, in the light and we confess our sins for cleansing by the precious blood of Christ.

I am not sure how you have such vast knowledge of what people in churches do in their spare time or know what is preached or not preached in multiple pulpits. I am not sure how someone without a tv knows how people are attired in its programs.

Please note you came up with no examples to back your claims but painted, once again, with a broad brush.

I'm hard pressed to find any churches which don't have these parties or don't go the way of the world.I'm sure that there are some,just few and far in between. Apparently,yours is one of the few. Of course,none of your congregation will be tuning any where else.
Many churches don't speak of sexual sins but many of them do watch the same worldly programs and allow their congregation to dress as they wish. At least,they're not hypocritical in that regard...after all,if we are the church,what's the point of "observing" a dress code on one day and then breaking it the rest of the week?...or for that matter,even having a dress code if the members violate it in the programs that they watch? Do we have part-time standards and then applaud ourselves for being "good" in church?
There is a connection between the next guy in office and the Christian-for many Christians,he is the answer and many will not miss his entertaining address even though there will be questionable entertainers. If it's good for the goose...so it goes. If women are allowed to entertain in their underwear at such a venue and be the terminal "objects" which they think that they need to be,then why not men too? Why not sodomites? You lose your light when you compromise.

...not such a broad brush.Many women would not be dressing as they do at church nor would the church feel compelled to lure the world in with carnality if not for compromise and a falling away from Scripture decades ago.
The church is where it is because of compromise.Many churches wink at sexual sin and now they are upset because what isn't their particular choice of sexual sin is being more readily accepted in churches. This is called judgment.
The next guy in the big office will have "dancing girls" in their underwear perform at his big address...many people,Christians included,won't have a problem with it.We've accepted that as normal but if similarly dressed sodomites were to get in a kick line and perform,the Christians would have a fit.

Another thing is I would leave the High priest position for the one who earned it by obedience until death even the death of the cross. He alone knows who to pray for in the world for it is He who overcame the world.

We must not decide who we will pray for but pray for our enemies

Luke 6:27-28

27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

I do get your point on John 17 but we dont know who exactly is Jesus praying for BUT one thing we do know it for those whom he gave himself with blood and stripes.

Now according to God word he has saved sinners like these before.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

I am sure you will find yourself in one of the sins mentioned above.. Are you now to good to pray for the lost?

You have examples of churches that teach the Bible that have stated that it okay for their pastor or parishioners to view porn? If not then your statement that churches have paved the way for this is inaccurate. If you mean churches that are just called that but are inhabited by the unsaved from the pulpit to the pew, then it is just the unsaved doing what the unsaved do, and again your statement is inaccurate. Might want to rethink painting with such a broad brush.

There are no churches that have no sin in them because the members are humans, you are putting forth the notion that sin can't be preached against unless all "beams" have been removed.

You're absolutely right my brother Mike, these are not God's people, because if they were born again they would be obedient to the word of God.
I was not referring to their vessels, for as we know that our bodies are the temple of God. I was referring to the physical building that they are residing in, it has been desecrated by these satanic worshipping people.

What we all need to really do is to seriously pray for all of them! They are in desperate need of salvation just like every sinner (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

Just like God changed the lives of every one of us that are truly born again through the precious spotless blood of Jesus, His blood is sufficient enough to change the lives of these people and wake them up so they would know that they on a head-on high speed collision course with His Wrath if they do not REPENT!!!
