Emma Morano, last person alive born in 1800s, turns 117

An alert and chatty Italian woman, Emma Morano, on Tuesday celebrates her 117th birthday as the last known person alive who was born in the 19th century.

Born November 29, 1899, she is the world's oldest living person and the secret to her longevity appears to lie in eschewing usual medical wisdom.

"I eat two eggs a day, and that's it. And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth," she told AFP in an interview last month in her room in Verbania, a town in northern Italy on Lake Maggiore.

On a marble-topped chest of drawers stands proudly the Guinness World Records certificate declaring her to be the oldest person alive. ...

Northern California, eh Mike? Well what a fiddle. I've heard tales of California, road melt and all that sort of thing. Too hot.

Now Maine, that sounds right dandy; I haven't seen snow for many years. You're right, it would be a grand place for painting and fishing.

My sort of place, Mike, so long as it's not too cold. It's just got down to freezing here and I don't like that.
And I'd be sure to check out Cabot Cove, my favourite place in Maine.

Well your geography skills are spot on my friend. And yes Rhode Island, nicknamed the ocean state, with its Capitol being providence..a pretty good biblical name. I do believe it was founded by Roger Williams. A pretty interesting Christian to read about.
Jeremy, that would make an interesting read - all that history and spiritual development.

One of my favorite, too. I go to the upper Maine coast at least once a year. A number of relatives there. Maine has over 200 miles of coastline, and over 3000 miles of tidal shoreline. You'd like it, bro. Much painting could be done there. There are many lakes, forest everywhere, and cultivated wild blueberry fields, which are quite gorgeous in the fall when they turn scarlet. The State is still "undomesticated" in many places, another reason I like it.

As for sinners, yes they are everywhere, and they all need to hear the gospel from gracious lips, or to read a gracious tract by J C Ryle, in hopes they might be saved by God's grace.

If I got my geography right, then Christopher lives in the south of New England, being in Rhode Island and all.

Thank you Jeremy. I will always talk about the great commission, believing as I do that it is PRIORITY ONE in every Christian's agenda.

There are some heretics on these threads, and they need to hear the gospel as well as being shown their heresy. There are also from time to time cultists who do not believe in the Holy Trinity, nor in the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ. And then there are the Roman Catholics who need help in understanding the true gospel rather than the fake one.

All in all, there's plenty to do here, and souls to be saved.

But me, I love it out in the world, talking to people face-to-face, giving out my tracts, telling others about Jesus the Saviour, showing them by the way I speak to them that God is gracious and longsuffering. And always looking for that unmistakable work of the Holy Spirit in their life. God can save the hardest of men; it is all OF HIM. PTL!!

The evangelism itself will be one-on-one tracting throughout the whole county, having convos where possible. The tracts I use have follow up for anyone interested to learn more. The site will be for info mainly,
John UK from Wales..
letting others know what I am doing, and hopefully encouraging some to join in, by putting up articles by Ryle etc. about the benefits of tract distribution. If you know of any such articles, let me know bro.

What do I have to do to prove that I attend a Baptist Church on Sunday mornings? The name of the Baptist Church is River of Life Church in Hastings, Minnesota.

You buzz off. I attend a Baptist Church on Sunday mornings and have been since Labor Day weekend. And you call the Baptist Church a false religion? Would I have started to attend a Baptist Church on Sunday mornings if God was not working on me especially since I stated previously I would never attend a Baptist Church?

Dave, If you would have read carefully what I have been stating you would have read that I stated I go to the Catholic Church on late Saturday afternoon in the small town I reside in and go to the small Baptist Church on Sunday mornings in the small town I reside in. I never stated I switch back and forth. I attend both the Catholic Church and Baptist Church. I have been doing that since Labor Day weekend. The Catholic Church does not worship a false jesus but has always worshiped the biblical and historical Jesus as it states in the Apostles and Nicene Creeds "We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God". Does that sound like a false jesus? And if I started to attend a Baptist Church every Sunday then God did start working in me. And I was not lying when I stated that at that small Baptist Church I attend on Sunday mornings in the small town I reside in there is a 45 year old woman who has inoperable stage 4 lung cancer and she stated on her Facebook page that she is not ready to die and go to be with Jesus in Heaven.

MS, If I attend a Baptist Church on Sunday mornings then God did start working in me to attend a Baptist Church on Sunday mornings.

After the great flood, human lifespans declined quickly and precipitously as seen in the chart at right.
several possible factors for consideration:
The decrease was a result of God's order that "His days will be 120 years."
The decrease in lifespan was the result of the harsher environment after the flood.
Accelerated recombination, inbreeding, and the resulting genetic drift played a possible role.
Accumulation of mutations.
The decrease was a result of events occurring between 1997 AM and 2187 AM most of the post-diluvian patriarchs died).
The ages of the Biblical genealogy are exaggerated.
The ideal genetics of Adam were increasingly diluted through the postdiluvian generations, making the body less robust. This is supported by the geometric decrease in lifespan before leveling off.

decline in human longevity to 120 max! seen in Gen.6:3-7's text??
More likely 120 years until the flood

Genesis 6:3
"And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years."

120 yrs left until "My spirit shall not always strive..."

A decreed max lifespan of 120 yrs would not require generations post flood to arrive

Hi John, yes, the reason I brought it up is because you would most likely lose most readers out of boredom with any page that just scrolls on and on. Most will scroll, but not too far.
The way I would do it is to take whatever specific topic, like, say, election, Why Christ had to die, whatever, whatever, and split the one topic into subtopics. I would make the first page of the topic an intro, a summary of what's ahead. From there, you can divide the topic into portions, sub topics, with their own successively linked pages. For example: Why Christ had to die/intro page/The temptation/disobediance/Adams fall from grace/the consequences/Christ's plan for redemption, etc, etc., all linked frm one to the next.
Just some ideas.

Thanks Connor, didn't want to offend anyone, and I'm not sure I'm 100% about the sites limitations, but seems reasonable.
