TSA Inspects Texas Pastor’s Bible

The pastor of a Texas megachurch said he was stunned when a government agent stopped him at a TSA checkpoint so his Bible could be inspected.

“I couldn’t believe it. I literally couldn’t believe it,” said Gene Lingerfelt, the pastor of Faith Christian Center in Arlington, Texas.

The pastor and his wife were on their way to Cancun for vacation when he was stopped Monday in the TSA Pre-Check line for a “bag check.”

There wasn't anything in the article, but I don't believe the article was unbiased (few are) we don't have all the details, possibly he was mistreated, but more likely as I've seen similar incidents over the years with customs and Christians claiming to be persecuted it becomes clear as you look into that the person was being difficult with the officer, people tend be easily offended in TSA lines.

Interesting how we question the pastor, but not the nonsensical act. "probably being extremely rude and unwilling to comply"? Probably? Where does that come from? I couldn't find it in the article.

Yeah Kev that is very true. I love a good missionary biography but sometimes they have the opposite effect they are supposed to have. Instead of being built up by the lives of "great" saints, we can get down on ourselves..."darn it, why can't I be like William Carey?" But we also know where condemnation comes from.

Looks like it's time to carry two Bibles. One to give the TSA agent to keep.

Yeah the mission field in California is pretty barren and there is plenty of work in our own backyards and I don't see many people out there doing any evangelism and a lot of lost souls are in need. You can do a lot of good without leaving California let alone the country. Just think if you could help bring two people to the Lord and they do the same and so on. If the ultimate goal is conversion to save one from hell there is just as much need in the US as abroad. I'm all for oversees missions as well and talked with my wife about retiring to Mexico/South America or something and doing outreach. Right now I struggle enough myself with doing evangelism where no travel is needed. I do some but not nearly enough and need to pray more about it.

makes me wonder how Christians can go through life so unscathed and not to see someone struggle because of their faith, maybe this "not in America" stuff is not too healthy, and should be replaced with "didn't happen to me"..... lets get the underground Chinese Church with the "deplorable" American Christians and let the statist pastors meet with the state pastors of China. They'll be better matched.

I agree with John UK from Wales..stop whining..that's persecution for American Christians. Having their Bible inspected by TSA. Oh and Christmas trees being renamed holiday trees. That's what happens when zeal for Biblical evangelism is replaced by political zeal.

Why would he break the law, John Y.? The inspector might have gotten something useful out of it, if it was readable such as an ESV.

Your right John of UK, if a Bible isn't in English, but say, Elizabethan, they might get suspicious of a Bible in a foreign language. It might be some cult member carrying that around

Quite right, Rudy from Georgia.

Chris, there are numbers of strange things going on. Maybe to get people used to have strange things done to them. Here's an example- My wife makes beer bread, so beer is needed, but she feels funny buying it, so I pick it up. When I got to the counter I was asked for ID. Mind you it has been decades since I was under 21 yrs, and it is obvious. Nonetheless a photo ID was required, for the obvious wasn't good enough. I figured it's one of those things to get people comfy with random "show us your papers" demands. On a similar but more humorous note, I picked up a pg-13 DVD at Dollar General. They asked when I was born to prove I was at least 14 yrs. I said July 4 1776. That was good enough for them.

He should have took him down the Romans road. May that was the agents way of asking for help... Maybe a lost soul that he could have rescued .

Wrong version!

Example - Western movie Robert Mitchum is a preacher with a gun hidden inside his Bible. But the good book's upside down. Dean Martin says: "If that is a Bible, read it. If it ain't a Bible, drop it."
a scene in a 1968 movie"Five card stud"
But you can come better prepared the next time, which is what Mitchum does in "The Wrath of God." ...
This time, he's a priest with a gun concealed inside his Bible. And when the bad guys make him drop the Bible, he falls back on his reserves: a switchblade in his cross. He is no ordinary priest.must be a Jesuit. Check the pope's staff- might be a rifle.

Brits know JAMES BOND --
In chapter 4 of Goldfinger, Fleming describes how, in a hotel room in Miami, James Bond opens his suitcase and takes out The Bible Designed to be Read as Literature, opening the book to retrieve his Walther PPK in a Berns Martin holster. The book was published in the US by Simon and Schuster in 1936, and published soon after (possibly 1937 - in Britain by Heinemann.

2006 film V for Vendetta, Gun in bible trick shown

1993 Disney film The Three Musketeers Same trick used to rescue Artemis. -

Check that Bible! Some are fakes!

Well some Bibles are not Bibles at all, but a cover for a smuggling operation, having big cutouts inside.
