Pew: Americans giving up on God, miracles

Half of Americans who have left their church no longer believe in God, leading a surge of nearly one quarter of the nation who have no affiliation with any religion, according to a new survey.

Pew Research Center said Wednesday that 49 percent of what they term "nones" left their church and religion because they "don't believe." Another 20 percent said they don't like organized religion. Other reasons included "common sense" and a lack of belief in miracles.

The survey is the latest from Pew that demonstrates a growing trend in America: more and more people are junking religion and many are giving up on God. ...

seem to be important to the church anymore that people understand the

some people think that’s some kind of an intrusion into grace.
There’s a failure to understand the doctrine of substitution and

If I recall correctly you told us a while ago that you felt called to the ministry.
Let me ask you, how will you ever be able to truly minister to those who feel forsaken by friends and maybe even by the Lord, if you've never been there yourself? How will you be able to minister to those who are hurting without feeling hurt? How will you be able to help the faith of those who are sorely tried, if your faith has never been tried by fire? How will you help those who know deep disappointments if you have never experienced them yourself? You get the gist.
If however, you are able to overcome adversity by using the weapons of our warfare, then you can point others to the right way.
Consider the very many Psalms where the Psalmist agonizes over all sorts of problems and difficulties. They complain to the Lord, but you will notice too how they overcame.
E.g.
Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
When my flesh and my heart fail, I make God the strength of my heart and my portion.

Connor, I'm going to tell you a story today via email with the hopes of perking you up a bit, giving you some inspiration and energy, mental and spiritual. You need to know that you're far from alone and what another has been through and made it through without ever waning in faith, even though most would have.

Hello Conner,

From what it sounds like, the Lord is separating you from the world. Count it all joy my brother. Always remember this about the Lord who preceded you-
Isiah 53:3
He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
So it's no surprise that his saints would experience the same as him. For we are being conformed into his image unto sanctification daily as we walked with him.
I'll tell you what, I'd rather have this than all the "friends" in the world. One things for sure when you experience the new birth... not many others have. And it's heartbreaking when you don't find hardly anyone else with the same joy. But it taught me not to find comfort in the flesh of others.

I'll be praying for you friend.

I'm really surprised that SA didn't use the WND article though perhaps it came out after the thread was started? ]]http://tinyurl.com/z4l755f (Pastors speak out on rise of atheist America).

One remarked I really found profound was:

WND wrote:
According to the survey itself many are leaving the churches because of the hypocrisy of those attending, including the abuse by those who are supposed to be leading,” he told WND. “There is so much friendly fire within the churches and among the different denominations it is unbelievable! How can the church be a light to the nations when giving hope to the world when they are no different than the world?
Hopefully, someone mentioned this article--it's a good one

Sister ladybug brought up one of our favourite gospel preachers, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, one of his truly anointed gospel sermons was:

How to become a Christian.

This was preached over 40 years ago but still one of the finest presentations of the gospel to be heard.

Hello, brick wall...how are you? Fine, but my bricks hurt a bit. Oh? why do they hurt? Why does what hurt? Your bricks, you just said they hurt. Oh yeah, I didn't mean it though. Well, why did you say it then? Say what? That your bricks hurt. Because they do, but not really. So you said your bricks hurt but you didn't really mean it? Mean what? That your bricks hurt. I never said that. Huh?

My point of this nonscense? This makes about as much sense as it does when anyone hears something come straight out of someones mouth, yet says, "Well, I don't believe they said it".

The fact that Graham preaches the biblical doctrine of salvation means he has not compromised in his salvation message.

Well the fact that Graham in every Crusade has preached the biblical doctrine of salvation that salvation comes only through embracing Jesus as Savior and trusting entirely in Him alone for salvation means that what Cloud wrote about Graham's beliefs is a lie. I am Born Again because I embraced Jesus as Savior and I trust entirely in Him alone for salvation.

Bro Kev posted up a link to a video where Graham in his own words confirms his departure from the faith by accepting Romanists and Mormons as genuine Christians. How bad does it have to get before one recognizes him as a false prophet?

I think you've got a lot of growing up to do yourself JY, but most importantly:
YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN!
After all these years, I can say that John Y is already there.

And you? Sodom born again into Gommorah
