Pastor Fired for Alcoholism, Strained Marriage; NewSpring Church Confirms

After a week of whispers that he had been fired, NewSpring Church, a popular megachurch in South Carolina with a weekly attendance of 30,000, confirmed Sunday that Perry Noble, the church's founding and senior pastor, has been fired for alcohol abuse and other "unfortunate choices and decisions" and is currently under psychiatric care.

"While this is the most difficult and painful decision we've had to make, unfortunately it was necessary. Perry has made some unfortunate choices and decisions that have caused us much concern," NewSpring Church Executive Pastor Shane Duffey said at the 9:15 a.m. service.

He explained that the church tried for several months to help Perry after confronting him about his issues but he refused to take correction so they were forced to make the "painful" move. ...

MS,
I knew a guy who was very legalistic and thought he could loose his salvation. He was most miserable. I went into the break room one day and he had just got done crying he was so upset. We had good long discussion, and I tried to show him our salvation is contingent upon the finished work of Jesus Christ the propitiation of our sins, but he was convinced we must be perfect (he really thought this was possible) or we'll loose our salvation.
Two great crimes are contained in self-righteousness: frustrating the grace of GOD, and making CHRIST to have died in vain.
Galations 2:21.

They like to play a game called "Let's guess whether it's inspired or not, or shall we just let Papa tell us what is inspired and what is not?"

Of course it then depends on who the Papa is at the time as to what answer you get back.

Real hoot but keeps everyone on their toes.

Rodney, you've been hoodwinked. That's the "Received Secret Catholic Version", which later changed its name to the "Nearly Inspired Version"!

See John UK and I share love of the same version!

Must be translated from the minority Pharisee text.
Methinks Ill stick to the one JohnUK made mention of
I think it's a derivation of the hillbilly corn mash text.

I suppose it is hard to argue against "The Authorized Setting-People-Free Bible"!

Hi John,
I love calamari and stuffed squid is great too.You are right,it is a case of being use to something.Have you ever heard on Mount Athos? Or another name for it is Agion Oros(Holy Mount). Many monks live here and there is lodging where anyone can go to get away from it all(but only men are allowed to lodge). These people are like the old man you saw that stays at the back of the church. They live a very simple life.Prince Charles visits every year.Just something interesting I wanted to share with you.Stay well friend

I agree with GS & Observer.
We have ran into whole groups not unlike the very few (thankfully) who post here.
The stench of self-righteousness permeates all that they do and say.But sadly lacking is any joy in the LORD or fruit of the SPIRIT.
The Papacy isn't the only religion that insists that they are infallible in all matters pertaining to Christendom, there are a handful on here whose pontificatings would equal any anti-Christ pope!

Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Hey John

Yep, you got it.

Funny that it was ever called the temperance movement when they meant abstinence!! I guess liberals have always liked to use mislabelling as a tactic to get their way.

The issue here is basically that a few Pharisees here want to impose their incorrect and skewed views on everyone, as though our consciences should be tied to their views. They cannot produce one single verse that simply says "YE SHALL NOT DRINK WINE"! And the reason is simple, there is not a single verse that says that because there is nothing evil in wine per se. But like Psalms only singers rather than produce a single verse they will produce lots of opinions and angles (all false) as to why their view should prevail. They have set themselves up as judges despite

Col 2.16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days.!

Good morning saints!
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

John Chrysostom (347 -407AD) was the archbishop of Constantinople, and perhaps one of the most eloquent preachers. He writes, "..wine is the work of God, but drunkenness is the work of the devil. Wine makes not drunkenness; but intemperance produces it. Do not accuse that which is the workmanship of God, but accuse the madness of a fellow mortal" (from First Homily on the Statutes)

Good morning Observer Bro,

Thanks for that, it reminded me muchly when I read "intemperance" of the fruit of the Spirit which is "temperance" as found in Gal 5. There is a world of difference between temperance and abstinence. And it would be evidence of good maturity to have controlled temperance than stoic abstinence.

Since the new law giver here hasn't a clue what the BIble teaches, I'm very happy to provide a few links. Not that I think he wants to learn. Some day maybe he'll learn that ignorance ain't a virtue! (Nah, doubt it!)
