Dobson: Trump Made the ‘Fairly Recent’ Decision to Accept Christ
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump met with nearly 1,000 evangelical Christian voters Tuesday in New York City. The event, titled, “A Conversation About America’s Future With Donald Trump and Ben Carson,” addressed concerns such as abortion and the future of the Supreme Court. It was an overall success, earning the candidate positive feedback and building confidence among many who were formerly skeptical that Trump would defend conservative Christian values.

According to evangelical leader James Dobson, the real estate mogul’s ability to capture more and more Christian voters may be attributed to the fact that Trump recently accepted “a relationship with Christ.”

Dobson, a Christian psychologist and founder of Focus on the Family ministry, said he knows “the person who led [Trump] to Christ. And that’s fairly recent.”

“I don’t know when it was, but it has not been long,” Dobson said ...

Paula White lives in Trump Tower, too, which I thought was interesting. I watched a video of her promoting hom at a rally, and you would think he's always gone to church and been a strong Christian, etc. This is what was needed to secure the votes from many more Christians. Say it loud enough, long enough, often enough, and convincingly enough and, well, the people will follow.

"It may be laid down as a rule, with tolerable confidence, that the absence of accurate definitions is the very life of religious controversy. If men would only define with precision the theological terms which they use, many disputes would die. Scores of excited disputants would discover that they do not really differ, and that their disputes have arisen from their own neglect of the great duty of explaining the meaning of words."

Hi, Observer. Are you describing the faith that one has in order to be saved, or is it the faith of one who is saved?

What the devils believe is there is one God. At some point, these former angels actually had to decide to not trust him. Isn't that why they became devils?

Amen bro, well put, thank you. I think the theologians call it a "lively faith", not in the sense of being bouncy, but a faith born of spiritual life which comes from God, a sort of "faith in action", which is never alone, but always accompanied by a complete change of mind in regard to sin, a healthy fear of the Lord, and a determined leaning entirely on the Lord Jesus Christ for this world and the next, seeing oneself as unworthy but rejoicing in Christ our Passover and the grace of God by which we are saved, having all sins forgiven and washed away, justified freely by the grace of God, and having an ongoing sanctification whereby God may chastise us for needless faults and failings, all of which is bound up in his great love for his elect, chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world, and destined for the eternal worship of him who deserves such worship, our Great Creator Spirit.

Not answering for sister ladybug, but can you remember Mike when you decided to trust your parents? Or for that matter the ground you walk on?

Mike wrote:
How does that work out, practically speaking? "Trusting in Christ means you are resting on what he has done..." The problem is this starts with the trust already existing, and does not address how you get to the point of trust.
Sister ladybug was giving a defn of trust, not starting with it.

Mike wrote:

Even the devils believe and tremble, but they do not trust God.

Any kind of "faith"/"repentance" which does not produce fruit is worthless.

Mike, my spirit was born completely and totally dead. If something is dead, then it is dead and must be made alive before it can comprehend anything spiritual. Now repenting and being born again is certainly the most spiritual thing that can happen to us. Therefore any decision or understanding we have or think we have must have come from the Spirit who drew us and gave us the spirit of truth and repentance. This truth or decision which you allude to cannot be comprehended by our carnal natures; therefore we can take no credit for it which is what you are trying to do.

Not so, Frank. There is no credit due if all you bring is faith. Even Calvin said that. Believing a truth conveys no credit at all to the one who believes it. If you sit in a chair trusting it will hold you, how would that be a credit to you? If the chair holds you up, all the credit goes to the chair, none to you. You would not have brought anything creditworthy, all you did was trust the chair, which alone holds you up. That's kind of how I look at it.

Let's look at the tenses it is obvious that they are clearly laid out for a reason. ( cause leads to effect)Romans 8:29-30
29 For whom he did foreknow, (he knew you before the world began)he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son(he decided to conform you before you did any action), that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.( signifies a spiritual inheritance that the firstborn get also signifies the new spiritual birth)
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called(since he picked you he is gonna call you with an EFFECTUAL call): and whom he called, them he also justified(the people he called are going to believe in Christ making you justified): and whom he justified, them he also glorified.( anyone he justifies he's going to glorify in Jesus Christ at the right hand of the father in heaven)
There will be no spiritual fruit if he does not plant the seed.

Thank you Unprofitable but we have to be careful when basing our opinion on dated material. A lot can happen within a year and maybe "recent" is actually recent.
Time will tell.
Good point sc, here you go with something recent.

"The other day news broke that somebody told James Dobson that Donald Trump finally found Jesus. After much ridicule, Dobson is now walking it back.

Dobson now says he does not know for sure and, more importantly, he claims that the person who supposedly led Donald Trump to the Lord is noted prosperity gospel heretic Paula White.

White, you may recall, was under investigation by the IRS and was also accused of having an inappropriate relationship with fellow charlatan Benny Hinn.

This is just embarrassing. James Dobson, like so many before him, is seeing his credibility compromised by the Trump brand."

Do children understand everything? Sure, children grow up. But even a grown-up understands that some things are a mystery.

There is a calling...
There is a response...
In both, the glory be God's!

See, it's not so hard.

Sounds a little like which came first, the chicken or the egg. Well they both had to be present at the same time for either to exist. Maybe a bad analogy.

Since I believe the Lord chose me for some mysterious reason which I don't comprehend and I certainly don't think it was because of some inherent goodness or wisdom that I had. All that the Father gives to the Son, "will" come to the Son and those who come He will not cast out, but will raise them on the last day.

According to the above, I don't even have the ability to decide not to follow Him. I am one of His sheep and if I stray, He is faithful to go after me.

There seems to be a difference between the two words. Trusting in Christ with your very soul means you are resting on what He has done, and not some decision you have made. We do trust Him after He opens our understanding, to equate accepting Him reeks of a work man does; as though God is waiting on us to come to a decision. This is the danger of such language and it has produced tons of false converts. We dare not tell sinners they can accept Christ, we tell them the law and the Gospel and leave the saving of the soul to the One who accepts or rejects.
Ladybug, can you trust something without deciding to trust something? How does that work out, practically speaking? "Trusting in Christ means you are resting on what he has done..." This is true of myself as well. (ladybug)

This is also true of myself as well.

It is for this reason that every believer needs to recall the way in which the Lord called us by the gospel, where the word quickened us, bringing us to life with the Spirit, and setting the Lord Jesus Christ before our eyes as God's perfect Son, crucified for us, raised again, and ascended, reigning as King over all the earth, bringing many sons to glory through his intercession and by sending angels as ministering spirits to them that shall be heirs of salvation, the Spirit going where he wills and to whom he wills and when he wills, bringing sinners to new birth in God's purposes through whichever preacher he chooses, even if they be arminist or pentecostal, thusly the glory shall be God's not any one denomination or creedal statement, but God working in his way in his time, to bring souls to faith in Jesus Christ who loved them and gave himself for them. Praise the Lord! Gotta turn in. Nite.
