Russell Moore: Donald Trump Needs to ‘Repent of Sin’

Russell Moore, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, has said he hopes Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will “repent of sin.”

As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, Moore has a history of criticizing Trump, and throughout the 2016 election process has taken to Twitter to speak out agaisnt the presumptive Republican nominee.

In a recent interview with CBN News, Moore said he hopes that Trump will turn to Christ and “repent of sin,” and that this change of heart will cause a shift in some of Trump’s policies.

My "primary prayer for Donald Trump is that he would first of all repent of sin and come to faith in Jesus Christ,” said Moore, according to ChristianToday.com. ...

Trump knows just about as much about the bible as the typical Southern Baptist does. By the way, Russell Moore is a neocon within the SBC put there to spin the political agency so that Southern Baptist will digest the neocon agenda. He is a traitor.

I agree with your comment and understand it simply to mean the possible or probable hypocrisy of Russell Moore. I am glad you didn’t mention all of those who Moore could have named, but didn’t. I think Hillary and Trump were sufficient for your argument since they are certainly the opposing agenda today.

Anyway, I know little about Russell Moore, but I have a "preconceived" problem with anyone who sits in a position and determines what is ethical or moral and what is not and then passes that down through the chain and it is taught to those in their universities and often becomes church dogma. I remember a pastor in Germany that I knew that said most universities simply produced pastors who were like they were cut out with cookie cutters.

I believe this fellow actually attended a conference at the Vatican, enough said.

I can't imagine just how giddy he must have felt. Like George Bush looking in the eyes of the pope and then declaring he saw God in them.

(2Tim 3:16) @Mike: Since the part of the post that you addressed was written by me I figured that I would respond. It appears to me that your proposed standard for being credible is rather arbitrary. If we held pastors to this standard; then shouldn’t they publicly express concern for the souls’ of all of the unrepentant Presidential candidates on both sides? And what about all of the other public figures who are unsaved; do you have to express public concern for them also in order to be credible? What if Moore were to point out the unrepentant heart of the top pitcher for the New York Yankees? Is he then also responsible to point out the unrepentant heart of the Boston Red Sox’s top pitcher as well? Where would his responsibility end? Arguing from someone’s silence on an issue is hardly fair. What Moore has publicly stated about the condition of Trump’s soul is true. Sadly, Trump is on his way to hell as surely as Hillary, Obama or Sanders. If stating this fact makes some uncomfortable then it is only because of political bias. I pray just as hard for Trump’s repentance as for Obama’s and Hillary’s. I hope you have a blessed afternoon.
P.S. As far as I can tell, Moore isn’t a Hillary fan so I don’t see any basis for a political motivation to what he is saying.

You have aptly pointed out some of Moore’s flaws. But those in no way negate what he is saying here. I think that it should be quite clear to all that Trump is not regenerate. So Russel Moore is perfectly right to point that out. I think that it would be incredibly callous for any Christian with the possibility of being heard to sing Trump’s praises for political gain while remaining silent about the state of his eternal soul.
When Moore shows as much concern for Hillary as he does for Trump, then he will become credible when speaking about the state of souls.

The SBC ethics and religious liberty office is built primarily as a social advocacy in defense of religious liberty and in encouraging a ethical reasoning or debate in our country. State run churches tend to not be ethical or for Liberty. As to whether I'm a faux Christian, I'll answer back like a 13 year old, whatever dude.

I’d imagine that Moore, like most Christians, wishes that everyone would come to know the Lord. If the “rhetoric” of calling a sinner to repentance is “dispiriting” to that sinner’s supporters, then shouldn’t they perhaps re-evaluate their support?
(2Tim 3:16) @penny: you wrote: “where is (Russel Moore’s) response to fetal cell lines being in the vaccines as the SBC calls out planned parenthood for selling fetal body parts?”
For the record I am not defending Russel Moore. However I am curious as to how you can hold Trump to a totally different standard than Moore? Even if Moore supported fetal cell lines in vaccines (dubious at least); how is this worse than calling for the continued tax payer funding of Planned Parenthood? You have aptly pointed out some of Moore’s flaws. But those in no way negate what he is saying here. I think that it should be quite clear to all that Trump is not regenerate. So Russel Moore is perfectly right to point that out. 1. I check the source--I've never heard of this 'christian headlines' website, so I doubt many others have either. If this story had been posted on a major internet news site, I would give it more credence. As it is, it is a tiny site in a backwaters, with few people reading it. I doubt any talk show hosts will even mention it. Therefore, this story is a tiny pebble dropping in a big pond.
2. Who is Russell Moore? I have never heard of him! Not to say I am all knowing, but I think I am familiar with many major Christian leaders. If one of them came up to the stand to say what is said here, maybe it would be a bigger pebble in the pond.
3. Today is Election Day in many states, and though Trump and Hillary have already won enough votes to get their nominations, there will still be major coverage of the elections.
4. Trump doesn't depend on Moore or his group for votes. They didn't support him in all the previous primary elections, where he beat many other candidates, even my favorite one.
I may be going out on a limb on this idea, but I think that Trump has woken up a large group of people, not all Christian or evangelical, not all KJV-only folk, who voted for him.
Look at previous elections to see that most of the adults able to register to vote, do not vote at all!

Moore only has his geopolitical and heretical interests in mind when he berates Trump, he doesn't care about Trumps salvation. This pimping his views in the guise of Chrisitianity is disgusting

Title: Russell Moore vs. Roy Moore: Whose law?

http://www.contemporarycalvinist.com/2015/02/russell-moore-vs-roy-moore-whose-law.html

above Russell Moore stands against the Judge who is using state law to stop sodomy marriage

Trump has stated states rights regarding transgender bathrooms.

what we have here is trump more aligned with judge moore, both emphasizing states rights.

and Russell moore more aligned with pope who is emphasizing erasing borders and NWO?

but that's for others to decide, what evangelicals are missing is that there is a dividing line going on here.

when Paul Ryan calls Trump racist for border, but at San Jose his rally was multicultural, it was the paid agitators that were "la raza", that means "the" race. quit being played, folks, there's a storyline being told here, figure it out.

same as abortion, it was prolife groups who stopped the antiabortion law in Oklahoma. here Christians were going to make it illegal according to state law, the Lord gave us a legal means for redress, and Christian leaders are mocking it, and callin

if an antimoore hashtag was started and sbc pastors were able to vote, wonder if he'd still be around.

where are his calls for justice when la raza police chief or mayor in san jose allows their citizens going to an event to be attacked by paid agitators flying a foreign flag?

why did he stand against Judge Roy Moore and where are his calls for support for him?

why is he associating a concern for one's nation as a sign of being a [email protected], is not the warning of Babylon to stop one world empire builders?

why does he ignore the criminal investigations of Clinton, her husband's rape accusations?

is not his job to be taking information to pastors so they can teach their people with accurate information? where is response to fetal cell lines being in the vaccines as the SBC calls out planned parenthood for selling fetal body parts?

seems more of a stick in the spoke....

he has had so many dealings with the Vatican, is this man even saved???

I mean Russell Moore, social engineer, who seems not able to identify the enemies of the gospel?

And when a man runs for office who wants to restore our laws and wants to stop Chrsitian genocide in Syria and wants to represent them in a time of Christian persecution, thank him for that!
