Oral Roberts University Case Another Threat to Religious Schools

The effort of a former student at Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Oral Roberts University (ORU) demonstrates the continuing threat to a religious-based institution's ability to carry out the mission for which the school was founded. In the case of ORU, and the multitude of evangelical Christian colleges and universities across the nation, the secular progressives clearly want to force them to at least water down that mission, if they cannot get them to simply vanish.

Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride, a pro-LGBT organization, was blunt. “Taxpayers should definitely not have to pay for a private college to openly discriminate against anyone.”

Sabrina McGhie was a student at ORU who entered into a same-sex "marriage" relationship with Ophelia Bradford and changed her name to Sabrina Bradford. But when McGhie first entered ORU in 2011, she signed — like all other ORU students — a Code of Honor ...

Frank I do get your point, just who might they have been praying to? There are plenty of false gods that could be prayed to, and what were they praying for? Who lead the prayer? Frank, it probably is controversial, however I see your point. Also it probably was a good thing because it could have lead to public prayers to: Allah, the universe, Joseph Smith, Michael the archangel many other people/things that are unworthy of prayer.
Thanks Connor, you and I agree fully on this issue. Some people simply think that "all" prayers glorify God, but what a silly thought. The only thing that glorifies God are those prayers that are in His Son's name and for His glory.

The social gospel is running rampant and I think school prayers was a sign of that. I wouldn't want my children taught scripture by anyone but me or those I approve of and I wouldn't want then to pray to some satan counterfeit.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I like your thought and let me add something that might be controversial. There was a time when folks were annoyed because they stopped prayer in schools. To me that was a wonderful thing because I would want no one teaching or praying with my children except me or someone I approved of. In public schools, parents had no way to monitor or influence who taught our kids what or what they prayed for.

Poorly said, but I hope you get my point.

Well I am of course not a fan of Oral Roberts Univ., but what this groups is saying is that Christians must accept those who are perverts regardless of what their statements of faith are.

This is one more good reason why organizations should not accept government control of any kind; specifically 501C3 status.

But, even if someone isn't under government control, this blasphemy will simply get worse and worse. It will then be simply called hate speech. The homosexual movement is not satisfied with societal acceptance, but it demands Christian acceptance as well.

To me, any college or university, is going to have to comply with the gay agenda, or go under and cease to exist.

Watch out, Christian and quazi-Christian colleges are NEXT!!!

The Churches of the U.S. are under the same crosshairs of the "Gay Rights" agenda. It's a growing cancer with the goal of eradicating or replacing "Religious Rights" in this country!!! WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

Think abt that with the incorporated church which is a creature of the state along with a 501-c church abide by the laws or pay the penalty. History repeated itself from England to the US. It only gets worse

In other words, Christian colleges are in the crosshairs for their opposition to accepting the homosexual or transgender lifestyle. And the weapon to be used against them is money, stripping them of the ability to receive tuition from their students who attend their schools by obtaining federal grants. Shane Windmeyer of Campus Pride explicitly called for an end to public funds being used by students at private Christian schools who “discriminate” against LGBTQ students.

He decried the nearly $130 million in annual taxpayer funds that go to Christian colleges and universities. “If a college receives public funding, it should have to follow public laws. The government should be perfectly within its rights to make taxpayer funded aid to these colleges contingent on compliance with generally applicable nondiscrimination laws. If a college wished to continue discriminating against LGBTQ students and employees, it could do so on its own dime.”

This should provide a cautionary flag for those who favor government vouchers for education below the college level colleges & universities are often bullied into hiring fewer white males so as to secure accreditation. Maybe they are not that blunt, but they are reprimanded for failing to practice “diversity.”
AND perversity.
