He is not here, but is risen!

Luke 24 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. ...

Acts 12:4

Intending after Easter. There never was a more absurd or unhappy translation than this. The original is simply after the Passover, ???????????. The word Easter now denotes the festival observed by many Christian churches in honour of the resurrection of the Saviour. But the original has no reference to that; nor is there the slightest evidence that any such festival was observed at the time when this book was written. The translation is not only unhappy, as it does not convey at all the meaning of the original, but because it may contribute to foster an opinion that such a festival was observed in the times of the apostles. The word Easter is of Saxon origin, and is supposed to be derived from Eostre, the goddess of love, or the Venus of the North, in honour of whom a festival was celebrated by our pagan ancestors in the month of April. (Webster.) As this festival coincided with the Passover of the Jews, and with the feast observed by Christians in honour of the resurrection of Christ, the name came to be used to denote the latter. In the old Anglo-Saxon service-books the term Easter is used frequently to translate the word Passover. In the translation by Wicliffe, the word paske, i.e.

The wandering Resurrection Sunday, a short interesting article about it, ]]http://tinyurl.com/hkxnzb4 (Why does Easter's date wander? ) Oh, and of course you want to know the day it wanders to in a particular year, ]]http://www.csgnetwork.com/eastercalc.html (Easter Calculator And Converter)

Penny, those things happen to Scofield after he became a Christian, now you might say that make him unworthy of certain positions in a church, such as, ]]http://www.gty.org/resources/print/articles/A256 (Should Fallen Pastors Be Restored?), but none of that has to with the accuracy of his statements, which should be self-evident.

Scofield wrote:
The Christian first day perpetuates in the dispensation of grace the principle that one-seventh of the time is especially sacred, but in all other respects is in contrast with the sabbath. One is the seventh day, the other the first. The sabbath commemorates God's creation rest, the first day Christ's resurrection. On the seventh day God rested, on the first day Christ was ceaselessly active. The sabbath commemorates a finished creation, the first day a finished redemption. The sabbath was a day of legal obligation, the first day one of voluntary worship and service. The sabbath is mentioned in the Acts only in connection with the Jews, and in the rest of the N.T. but twice. col 2:16; heb 4:4. In these passages the seventh day sabbath is explained to be to the Christian not a day to be observed, but a type of the present rest into which he enters when "he also ceases from his own works" and trusts Christ.

Happy Sabbath day Jim.

The 'Sabbath' is the first day of the week which is blessed by the resurrection of Christ and has become the Lord's Day a Sabbath rest and from creation has been the day of God's great mercy and blessing in worship and praise. Halleluiah.

"Last, but not least, the Sabbath is an unmixed good for man's soul. The soul has its wants just as much as the mind and body. It is in the midst of a hurrying, bustling world, in which its interests are constantly in danger of being jostled out of sight. To have those interests properly attended to, there must be a special day set apart; there must be a regularly recurring time for examining the state of our souls; there must be a day to test and prove us, whether we are prepared for an eternal heaven. Take away a man's Sabbath, and his religion soon comes to nothing. As a general rule, there is a regular Right of steps down from "no Sabbath" to "no God."" (J C Ryle)

It is
God’s will that we know the times

and that we be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
The news reminds us that the hour is very late,
and we need to be ready for the Lord’s coming.

This trepidation of fallen world allows us to ask--

Are you sure that you are born again?
Are you living for Christ?

Good to instill the fear of the Lord.

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:
for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand:
let us therefore cast off the works of darkness,
and let us put on the armour of light.

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness,

not in strife and envying.
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and make not provision for the flesh,
to fulfil the lusts thereof” (Rom. 13:11-14).

Malachi 3:16"...they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

...cut off from end of first post...

(I think so many have given up and given in because the events of the day have caused them to go spiritually numb, asking, "Where is His promised coming? Everything remains the same..." as His Word says will happen.)

Being able to look through this darkness, we see those things that must be, a means to the end. We see a God who loves us with a love we can't even begin to comprehend; a God who is fulfilling the promises He made to us long ago and coming to fruition. We see these dark things as the puzzle pieces which must come together so that He can fulfill those promises and restore His creation to it's original intended perfection. So many see an abandoned, out of control, world gone bad and getting worse. An indifferent, weak God who's losing the battle as Satan gains ground, edging Him out of the equation.
In stark contrast, We see a God who loves us, a God who refused to give up on us, as unworthy as we are, a God who can destroy everything with a word if He so chose, a God fulfilling His promises to us, no matter how things may look with our limited understanding, and a God who promised to never leave or forsake us, no matter what. I see a God in full control and as strong and mighty as ever. That's what I see when I look behind the dark, temporal curtain of this world today.

Happy He is Risen day. The days are bleak and the bulk of the daily news is dark. War, and senseless slaughter. Rape and pillaging, mutilations, utter hatred, indifference to human life, and legalized murder. The rise of the sodomites and the spread of their infection, the takeover of the Athiests and their strong arm, the ACLU, the resurrection of extreme racism, and the government, public schools, and TV indoctrinating the next generation with the polar opposite of everything that's good and right. Finally, and most importantly, the new age of man...God has changed, God is dead, or God never was. The next generation is growing up Godless or in the face of extreme comprimise; a watered down, weakened, emaciated, defeated or indifferent God who cracked under man's push to be able to live as he chooses.
I think in todays world, it's real easy to get caught up in the darkness of the day and go numb. I think it's real easy to feel abandoned and cave in to the pressures of society, in some ways, succumbing to the new normal as its beaten over our heads all day, every day. I think it's real easy to give up and give in as the bleakness of the days raise the question, "God, where are you? Hello? What's going on...we need you". I think so many have given up and given in becau

What a blessing, Carl, to have a husband who knows enought and cares enough to actually listen to a sermon close enough to say a scripture is out of context. With a husband that falls asleep during the sermon, never discusses much of anything with me. Talks to our sons about hunting and fishing so I see that as a man thing. He is a good man and a great provider when younger. He provided for a wife and four kids and for that I am thankful. Perfect, no, neither am I..we love each other and that's what matters.
