Queen Elizabeth Says Devotion to Christian Faith Is Why She Won't Support Gay Marriage

Queen Elizabeth II opposed the legalization of same-sex marriage in England because of her deeply held Christian values, a close friend has reportedly told a London-based newspaper.

The UK Daily Mail published a story Sunday which claimed that the queen, who is also head of the Church of England, secretly opposed gay marriage but was in favor of civil partnerships. The unnamed "friend" said the monarch was frustrated by the fact that she could only "advise and warn" on the issue.

I think on the whole Americans really like Queen Elizabeth, even if we are a Republic. She sets an example that I doubt that her eldest son Charles will ever be able to follow. John Yurich USA wrote:
Henry VIII founded Protestantism in the United Kingdom when he formed the Church of England. Everybody should know that.
"The name Protestant first appeared at the Diet of Speyer in 1529, when the Roman Catholic emperor of Germany, Charles V, rescinded the provision of the Diet of Speyer in 1526 that had allowed each ruler to choose whether to administer the Edict of Worms. On April 19, 1529, a protest against this decision was read on behalf of 14 free cities of Germany and six Lutheran princes who declared that the majority decision did not bind them because they were not a party to it and that if forced to choose between obedience to God and obedience to Caesar they must choose obedience to God. They appealed either to a general council of all Christendom or to a synod of the whole German nation. Those who made this protest became known to their opponents as Protestants, and gradually the label was applied to all who adhered to the tenets of the Reformation, especially to those living outside Germany"

Partial truths never serve right judgment. Isolated statements can mislead sense. Blank generalities may help to obscure truth.

Protestantism in England started and bred in Cambridge University where students avidly reading Erasmus's Greek NT, (Tyndale figuring among them) began to reject the unscriptural dogmas of the Roman church.
Luther's writings circulating in such circles were avidly read and accepted by a good number of bishops as Cranmer, members of the aristocracy and even at the royal court, where Anne Boleyn held Bible studies for her ladies in waiting and friends inviting Reformed-sympathizing preachers as Coverdale to read, preach and teach from the Greek NT.
Volatile Henry only had to grasp such ongoing trend to his convenience, eventually leading to the state breaking officially with the Roman sede.
This was the awaited opportunity many nobles and church leaders sighted for to declare the church in England a separate church from Rome, getting with this the longed for freedom of conscience and speech in doctrinal matters.

Heb 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season;
:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Know body doubts that being born into such a position as the Queen that it is easy to maintain a faithful Christian position.
Sadly the Monarchy as historically like politicians in the USA have used the faith for political and selfish ends.
That is why we are called to come out from among them and remain faithful to Christ like Moses had to.

The queen as well any other person who calls himself a Christian and finds himself in a position of public authority or leadership will find it impossible not to compromise Christian teaching. Christ knew that better than anyone and that is why He flat out rejected the offer. Our kingdom is not of this world and the sooner we understand this the better off the true church of Christ will be. Jesus clearly taught the separation of church and state.
I respect the queen but I would hate to be in her position.

The previous post in this thread removed by SA included significant historical information. It is a pity that is gone. It is a pity also that the information originally provided had not been properly documented by the poster in question.

She should have then held to her convictions even if it had caused a constitutional crises pragmatism is not a Christian virtue.
Also so called civil partnerships are not Biblical either.
Only the LORD knows if she is truly saved; but because of her position and the affection she has in our nation she could have truly had a profound effect upon our land for the good and for the glory of God she proclaims to believe in.
