Just the opposite for me. Our DVR is bursting with filth like the all the housewives, watch what happens, Vanderpump rules, etc, etc. All very gay and fornication, etc, friendly.

Ah, it won't make much difference mate.

GS Montana (phew, takes some getting used to) thanks for that precious text. You know that used to be one of my favourite verses in the Bible and it related to me perfectly, because of God's grace in my heart and soul. But attendance at several different churches somehow knocked it out of me to a degree. I think it does not take very much to change a church for the worse. Just let a little bit of the world in. Then a bit more. Then just never preach on 1 John 2:15, then have worldly music, then have worldly worship, then have jokes instead of Bible exposition, then join the ECT abomination, then have a big screen in the sanctuary and show all the major sporting events, then change the demands of the gospel, then do away with the gospel, then change the name of the church to Ichabodd Baptist Church, then be listed in God's Book as fully apostate and destined for the eternal flames.

Ah, it takes a lot of fighting to stay focussed on God's word and not listen to those enemies who want to drag us down to hades with them.

And such a difference that makes!!! A home is always totally different when the world and its lusts are kept out. As you pointed out, love for the things of the world seems a token of the obvious:
"If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

The issue often is: How can a blood-bought individual still 'rejoice' in iniquity?

"He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked."

Those of the world are easy identified:
"The transgression of the wicked says within my heart,
that there is no fear of God before his eyes." Psa 36:1

Yet without apologies, a distinctive mark of the believer is that he/she rejoices in the beauty of holiness. 2Ch 20:21

Your welcome John, and thank you for all the edifying posts over the years (or at least the two years I've been posting here).

Since we've been talking about how we should bide our time as Christians, here's a convicting verse I like to think of when I get sidetracked with worldly things.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

G'day Dave, I'm glad to see someone blessing SC and Sister B, both of whom stand up for God and righteousness, and because of whom I am currently disappointed with myself and seeking revival of heart, that I might seek the Lord and gain his ultimate blessing, the powerful anointing and life-changing power of the Holy Ghost, filling me to overflowing, such an overflowing that I might like Jesus declare and be true to the words, "Zeal for thine house hath eaten me up."

I have no desire whatever to be a lethargic Christian, of no use to the assembly; rather a revivalist like John Baptist.

I may even be changing my position from Moderationist to Abstentionist. Maybe that big debate is bearing fruit, as although I am an abstainer and have a hatred for all things alcohol, I put forth a Moderationist position, as I believed that was the biblical stance on the matter.

Anyway, God bless YOU Dave, or you'll be so running out of blessings for others, you'll be running on empty, mate. And we can't have that, can we?

The Bible mentions divers mundane topics, yet the actual intent of its writings is to point man towards the knowledge of God.
For instance, it contains Geography, History, Poetry or Literature, yet its purpose is not to be a manual for any of those particular sciences, but through such fields of 'tangible' knowledge to endorse spiritual understanding.
Because of this, any illustration having to do with sports, commerce, agriculture or war, as we find in the parables or in the epistles for instance, have no further intention than to illustrate spiritual truth. They serve to convey concepts; yet the detail they come enthralled in, should not be taken as a pattern to justify a practice, fashion or line of action.
Course of action comes governed by the direct teaching from the Word in the form of precepts, commandments or statues, or by the wisdom derived from God's character easily spotted while reading the narratives.
Together, they give way to the solidification of Christian principles and ethical values that form the core of a believer's daily practice.
I also would take that line, Sister B. Well said.

May God cause us all to examine our OWN hearts, may we have compassion and mercy towards one another, and show love by being there for one another, and serving one another. This is pleasing in our God's sight
Excellent post ladybug.

The family of God ought to go forwards together, all are going to the same place, all are redeemed by the precious blood of the Saviour, all need to examine ourselves, all need the ongoing work of the Spirit in our sanctification, all are needy, and none are perfect. I read recently of a godly prophet (OT) who included himself when describing the ills of Jewish society and God's judgment upon it. Most humbling and very instructive.
